Faded plastics on these (after 26-odd years) is a problem.
The plastic side covers and headlight surround are particularly susceptable.. UV exposure really destroys the colouring in these. The answer is to sand off all the dead plastic. The fuel tank is probably the best of the plastics, but not that good. Let's see how it comes up! (Oh, and you can buy 3rd-party new/larger tanks - see Clarke Plastics).

Initial run-over with 240-grit is getting rid of plenty of grime - and the bright yellow is emerging.

I'll now go over with 400-grit wet/dry and see how it looks. Lastly some cutting polish and a buffing wheel should give it a final shine. mmmmmm! I think you'll agree that it's starting to look somewhat better!
