"Australian Nationals" coach to
run workshops in WA:
For those of you who don't know who John Watson is. He
coaches many of the adults and juniors who currently
compete in Australian and New Zealand Championships. He
has been running the "Worlds Freestyle Rock'n'Roll
Competition" in Queensland for many years. This year he
has renamed the competition "The Australian Nationals".
To promote this he is coming to Perth in April to hold a
series of workshops. We are still to confirm dates,
venue and other details, but the workshops will run over
a full weekend and will comprise of Rock'n'Roll classes,
lifts/jumps, presentation, style just to name a few.
These workshops are a fabulous opportunity for beginners
and experienced dancers alike to learn from one of the
best Rock'n'Roll coaches in the country. There will also
be limited places for private lessons, so as soon as we
can post the details make sure you book a spot so you
don't miss out. For any information on the "Australian

High
Rollin' Rhythm Kings need vocalist -As
many of you know, the High Rollers' singer Andy
Burnaway has been having on-going problems with his
throat and has been advised to take an extended break
from singing.
Unfortunately, things look unlikely to
improve anything soon, and we can only keep our
fingers crossed for Andy. To keep things swingin' at
the Mustang Bar on Monday nights, Marco has stepped up
and will be performing in his inimitable rockin' style
in February with some of the Rhythm Kings (as he did
at DeVille's recently). Meanwhile, we are looking for
someone who may be able to fill Andy's shoes, in the
band's "Hillbilly Jazz" style. If you have a love of
40s/50s Western Swing, with a side order of Rockabilly
(Wayne Hancock is a good contemporary reference point)
and you can sing and play rhythm guitar, we would love
to hear from you! (By the way, for all those who have
asked, my voice fine innit - the other Andy!)

from Morocco: Having an
awesome time. Chellah Gardens in Rabat was
definitely the highlight so far. This is an amazing
landscaped garden with Roman ruins in the middle of
a stork breeding ground. The gardens are full of
cats acting as estate guardians and welcoming
visitors. The ancient Royal grain storage was also
incredible ... a huge series of cavern-like
structures with wonderful textures and colours. Also
Rick's Cafe Casablanca is a great spot. The food was
fantastic and terrific atmosphere with superb decor
and soft swing music. Internet has been sporadic. So
we are up-dating website as is possible. All hotels
claim wifi...haha!!

slowly piece together a bit more of WA's rock'n'roll
history. Send in your story, come and tell me your story and
I'll write it up under dual authorship, or recommend
musicians and participants who's knowledge can contribute to
a richer picture of the Snake Pit days and the bodgies and
widgies of the 50s and 60s era in WA.
