The procedures described below are aimed at maintaining
and improving your piano. Action Regulation, Hammer Reshaping and VoicingACTION REGULATION is a series of overall but fine adjustments to the moving parts of the piano action aimed at making the mechanical functioning more accurate and efficient. HAMMER RESHAPING removes about 1 millimetre of grimy and aged felt from the striking surface of the hammers. The fresh felt exposed by this procedure eliminates a somewhat muffled sound and produces a much more beautiful tone.
VOICING can improve the sound of a piano quite dramatically and is likely to have a significant impact on the performance of the piano.
Cabinet RefinishingAs well as being a musical instrument a piano is also a piece of furniture. There are several ways your piano can be made to look better:
RestringingWhy would you restring a piano? As a piano ages, the tone quality may no longer be what it could or should be and the tuning pins may no longer be tight, causing the piano to go out of tune quickly. The strings may come to the end of their natural life span, despite the piano otherwise being in relatively good condition.
Action RestorationThe action of a piano includes the keyboard and the mechanism activating the hammers and dampers. Restoration often involves re-felting of original action parts. However, in some cases replacement with new hammers and dampers and/or action parts may be a preferable solution. | |
