How to Install Windows Cursors

An easy to follow tutorial by Quentin Christensen

The cursors on my web-site - as with many downloads from many web-sites, are in ZIP format. In order to use them, you need a program to unzip the files, so that they can be used. The reason they are 'zip'ped is because 'zip'ping them makes the download smaller (and quicker) and allows putting everything which is related into only one file, where previously there may have been many, even sub-directories.

How to unzip files depends on the unzip program you use, and I won't go into that here, except to say to remember where you unzip the cursors to, as you will need to know this.

OK, let's go!

Step 1 - Open the Windows Control Panel
----------
Step 2 - Open Mouse Properties
----------
Step 3 - Go to the Pointers tab
----------
Step 4 - Select cursor to change
----------
Step 5 - Select new cursor
----------
Step 6 - Finish

Step 1 - Open the Windows Control Panel.

First of all, you will need to open the windows control panel. You do this by pressing the WINDOWS key or clicking on the Start button in the lower left hand corner of the screen, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel - as shown below:

Step 4 - Select cursor to change.

Now you need to select the cursor you want to change in the list by pressing TAB until you get to the list of cursor types and then using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys, or by clicking on the one you would like to change, (in this case the busy cursor), then press ALT+B or click on the Browse button:

Step 5 - Select new cursor.

Move to the directory where you unzipped the cursor file you wish to use and select it. Press the Open button:

Step 6 - Finish.

The image of the cursor you selected should now appear in the list of cursors as the normal cursor.

If you wish to change another cursor, go back to step 4.

If you want to make your cursor active, but may want to change another cursor, press ALT+A or click on the Apply button to make the new cursor(s) active and leave the mouse options open, you can do your normal work and 'test drive' your cursor(s), but have the mouse options open to CONTROL+TAB back to if you want to change it.

Once you have finished with the mouse options screen, Press TAB until you get to the OK button and press ENTER, or click on the OK to make the new cursor(s) active and close the mouse options:

That should do it. your new mouse pointer(s) should now be active!

I hope this helps you enjoy my large windows 9x mouse cursors. If you have a suggestion, or need any further help, please feel free to email me at cursors@qjc.cjb.net.
