 Balinese - description

The Balinese are longhaired cats in the Oriental family and were developed from the long coated cats which occured naturally in Siamese litters in the U.S.A. They were named because their elegant shape and movement reminded breeders of the native dancers on the island of Bali.

Its only after 8 weeks that you can really tell the difference between Siamese and Balinese kittens.

The Balinese has a longer, silkier coat. They are also shaggy behind the ears and have a much fluffier tail. Like the Siamese they have a wide head that tapers towards the chin and the Balinese's eyes are always blue.

Temperament: These good-natured cats make excellent companions and great playmates. They mix well with other cats and are quite content to live indoors. Balinese are highly intelligent and have a curious nature. They're also little exhibitionists, and will let you know they want some attention with an indignant meow .

Requirements: They have a simple coat that's a breeze to groom, but you shouldn't consider getting one if you are away at work all day, they really need you at home. The longer Balinese coat does not equate to high maintenance grooming because there's no thick undercoat to worry about. Their fur doesn't matt or tangle, so a comb through once or twice a week should do the trick.
