Masters degree success

Just before leaving for our family holiday, I received word from my supervisor that I had been awarded a High Distinction (85%) on my research dissertation. This was the final requirement for the Master of Learning Science and Technology (MLS&T) degree programme in the Faculty of Education at The University of Sydney. My dissertation reported on my case study of a Citizens Jury, focussing on the educational approach by expert witnesses.

I am chuffed and relieved because there were a couple of applications in the hopper awaiting this completion with high standing. Now I can accept the invitation by the School of Political and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts to undertake PhD study about adult learning in political situations under the supervision of Dr Lyn Carson, who has employed me all year as her Research Assistant.

Most importantly as I look to the future, I can also claim the full 3-year APAI scholarship I've been awarded to work on the newDemocracy Project under Dr Carson and Professor John Dryzek (ANU).

I don't brag too often (I hope), but I'll be savouring my New Year's champagne with considerable pride.

[Update] Following several requests, I make my dissertation available here (PDF).

Congrats, Ron! Happy New Year!
