     Alfred Chant was born on 7 November 1824 in Somerton, Somerset, England.1 He was baptized on 11 July 1825 in Somerton, Somerset, England.1 He was a weightmaster in 1855.1 He married Catherine Mansfield, daughter of William Mansfield and Susan Newling, on 27 August 1862 in Merraways, Barrabool, Victoria, Australia; private home of Mr Honey.1 Alfred Chant died on 14 August 1904 in Skene Street, Geelong, Victoria, Australia, at age 79.1 He was buried on 16 August 1904 in Geelong Eastern Cemetary, Geelong, Victoria, Australia.1
