Manly warringah chess club news

Wednesday 30th march 2011 - Mark De Groan gave a lecture on the stratagy of chess, very interesting and enjoyable night was had by all, thank you Mark you did an excellent job.

Once again Mark well done an excellent lecture everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

Manly Warringah Rugby League Chess Club is now a sub club within the Manly Warringah Rugby League Club:

The previous Manly Warringah Rugby League Chess Club is no longer operating within Manly Warringah Rugby League Club

We are welcoming all new members, and also some of the old members ( from Manly warringah Rugby League Chess Club) to come and join us, we would love to have you here.

We hold our chess night every Wednesday evening at 7-30pm at the Club Room, second level of Manly Warringah Rugby League Club car park-- second level, these are unlicensed premises, so young and up and coming chess stars will feel very comfortable

The Club room is fully aircontioned, plus amenities & tea / coffee / buscuits etc

We will be holding chess competitions - plus teaching chess to beginners,

Chess tuition from beginners to advanced.

Wednesday 5th May :

Tze Weng gave a very interesting lecture on pawn structure: He pointed out the pawn weaknesses ex: isolated , doubled, or backward pawns, care must therefore be taken to avoid them. He also demonstrated the stonewall formation, hanging pawns, closed sicilian formation. Well done Tze Weng, we all learnt a lot from you., very informative.

Gordon Struk (President) gave a lecture on chess openings, explaining the Queens Gambit opening and the variation of moves, white is offering a pawn in exchange for rapid development.

The Queen's Gambit offer can be declined or accepted by black. to accept can be risky for black. The lecture was very interesting and well received by all.
