My name is Philip Rosz, I am an ex Belfairs student, (I left in 1971) I was born 1955 and am married with 2 daughters and live in Sydney, Australia where I now work as a school photographer.
At Belfairs High School for Boys it was the custom to have a whole school photo taken every 5 years. I obtained a copy of the photo taken during my time there, and have scanned my copy to put on this page so anyone can use it for reference.
During recent years I have been able to make contact with some ex Belfairs class mates by using bulletin boards and I have found that this picture helps to brings back memories very easily. It's amazing how many people you can name once you see their faces in a photo.
The photo was taken back in 1969, is black and white and was taken with a large format special 180 degree panoramic camera which actually turned around an entire 180 degrees to make it's exposure. The school group was set up in 8 rows, the top 2 rows standing on desks and the bottom row sitting on a tarpaulin on the ground. It was taken on the sports field in a long perfect half circle so that we were all at the same distance from the camera. The print itself is only 12.5 cm high but 103cm long (I had it rolled up with an elastic band around it for years as we didn't get the frame for it). Because of it's length I had to scan it in 4 sections. It wasn't till recently that I was able to "stitch" it back together in a graphics programme so it is now in one piece, I also took out a few marks and creases so it doesn't look so scruffy.
While you have been reading all this waffle, the large version of the photo below has hopefully been loading ok and will appear at the bottom of this page. It's a big file (853kb jpg) as there are over 800 people in the photo which means it has to be big enough to see faces, so you may need to wait a bit longer for it to finish loading, then just use the scroll bars. It just keeps going..... By the way, I take lots of school photos now in Sydney, Australia where I work as a full time school photographer.
