Citizenship and The Kingdom of God
1 Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
We are born into a kingdom. We do not notice anything unusual and live comfortably with the laws of that kingdom. One day, suddenly all that changes. We realise that we should be citizens of another kingdom, and are living in enemy territory to which our true King still has right to but has not yet returned to claim and whose laws are often different to the laws of the kingdom we live in. We find our work is to tell others about the rightful king and his laws so that people will live as he wants and will be following his laws when he returns to take back the territory we all live in. Even more importantly, we all will face Him and give an account of what we did for Him while in this enemy kingdom.
Thus is the synopsis of the Christian life.
You are born and live in the kingdom of darkness until you realise who the true king is and that you will have to face Him one day and give an account of how you lived, even though His enemy rules the land. Then you swear allegiance to Him and live as He requires in a land whose laws are controlled by the enemy. Your work is to extend the knowledge of the true king preparing people to face him either when he returns or after they die and that all will be judged for the way they live. This is in a kingdom where everything opposes what you are doing and whose current king tries to destroy you while you are doing it.
Despite all the political divisions made by man there are really only two kingdoms: The kingdom of God and the kingdom of His enemy, Satan (the devil). Before a person becomes a follower of Jesus they live under the principles and rulership of the kingdom of Satan and have the attitudes and purposes of that kingdom. When they decide to follow Jesus they do a 180 degree turn in their attitudes and turn to the purposes and attitudes of The Kingdom of The Father (2 Cor 5:17).
This new life style is called ‘holiness to God’, turning away from the things of the kingdom of darkness you were in to the things of the Kingdom of light. The deliverance ministry helps you with this as it removes the baggage of the kingdom of darkness, but only so much of it as you want removed.
The Kingdom of God, at the moment, is where the influence of God is through the presence of The Holy Spirit in a citizen of this kingdom. This presence of The Holy Spirit in you means you need no special place to worship the King, as you are that special place. His presence also means you can be guided by the true king, if you want to, and do what he requires of you in his quest to free people from the control of his enemy.
Jn 4:21&23 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father…But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Entrance to The Kingdom of God
To become a citizen of a Kingdom you must desire to follow the King, meet the requirements to be a citizen, believe what He says and do what He tells you to do.
We are told to "believe on the LORD Jesus Christ and you will be saved." In other words Salvation requires you to accept Jesus as your Lord, accept what He teaches and has done ass well as to do what He requires you to do. This means you need to know the King’s Commands and Laws (The Bible) and how to hear His Will for you (guided by The Holy Spirit).
Galatians 3:26 for you are all Sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are Sons of God.
Salvation is a relationship with Jesus and The Father (John 17:3). It is a relationship of Love (John 14:15). Our entrance to the Kingdom is an act of Love by God and this should set the tone for our relationship with Him.
A New Creation
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Why are you a new creation when you follow Jesus voluntarily as Lord of your life? The body and soul has not changed. Your spirit though is transformed and The Holy Spirit now lives in it and you have new purposes and values. The Soul and heart need to be transformed through discipline of self and this is part of working out your salvation.
It is as we realise that out spirit has been transformed that we will work on our soul, heart and flesh to bring them into line with the new attitudes and purposes of The Holy Spirit in your spirit.
We are transformed as we renew our mind to think as God wants it to and by will power transform the soul and heart to that Jesus desires it to be.
How is the relationship expressed?
The way in which we express Jesus results from our attitude towards Him. Our purpose in life should be to obey whatever He tells us to do. This is not optional if you want to be a citizen of His Kingdom. He directs how to serve Him, when to serve Him, and where to serve Him and at times what to use to serve Him. It is not the act of robots, but of people who love their King and know all He asks of them is best for them.
Our life is a continual ministry to our King and is expressed as service towards others on His behalf. A ministry to Him resulting out of Love for what He has done for us:
Ministry must be done out of love for Him and the person being ministered to
Ministry not of Love is not of God
Ministry not of Love sidetracks His Plans
Ministry not of Love promotes Satan’s plans
Ministry not of Love hinders the growth of others and can destroy them
Ministry not of Love hinders the growth of the person ministering
God can still use incorrect ministry but not as effectively (Romans 8:28 still holds true here).
What does it mean to be a citizen of a kingdom?
Democracy as a way of ruling is not in the Bible, and Satan did a master stroke in promoting democracy. People have forgotten what it means to have a king and as a result how to relate to God as our King. Thus, we treat God as if we are in a democracy with Him and not as a subject in His Kingdom. The true appreciation of Lordship is not taught as it conflicts with the satisfaction we get in having our say in a democracy. So, we have little concept of what it means to be a citizen of a kingdom or to have a king or lord over us.
Remember that we are guests of God. We do not have a right to be a citizen of The Kingdom. He invited us to Join through accepting Jesus as Lord (King) and Saviour and The Father transferred us there from the kingdom of darkness.
The Gifts and The Kingdom of God
The gifts are used to further The Kingdom of God, either through helping the people of three Kingdom or taking territory (people) from the kingdom of Satan.
We do not need to ask for the gifts we need as we are given to us when God anoints us (authorizes us) to Minister in a certain area of the Kingdom.
When He says we are to desire the gifts it can not be for our own desires but for the purposes of The Kingdom. As we desire to do the work of the Kingdom He will give us opportunity as well as any gifts need to do His work. SO do not desire the gifts but the ministry to use them in and they will be given to you when you are authorized to do that
Ministry.
Prophesy. Is this the best gift?
We are told to desire all the gifts and are then told it is better to express God’s Love in preference to expressing the gifts.
In The old Testament we told by God to seek wisdom and the Lord and nothing else. The gifts were not mentioned.
For the purposes of daily living prophecy has little use as it tells you what is to come or warns you of sin so for the purposes of daily living of the Christian life or for daily counselling it is usually not that useful.
What gifts should we desire for daily living?
The Holy Spirit leads us in daily living and talks to us personally so all we need someone else to help us understand what He tells us when we do not understand what He says to us..
To me, Words of knowledge and words of wisdom are more important (Wisdom = applied knowledge) than prophecy for daily living. They tell you what you need to know to live the Christian life where you are in it at that moment or what you need to know or say to help someone live the Christian life.
Prophecy has its place but usually is of little use in the daily living of the Christian life.
Seek to hear the Holy Spirit more clearly in your Christian life and to hear His words of knowledge and wisdom for your own guidance and the guidance (ministry) He gives you to others!
Roles in The Kingdom of God
The King
The King’s primary purpose is to preserve His Kingdom (his area of influence, power and authority) and seek the welfare of its citizens. To this end, He makes laws and plans that His citizens should obey.
The wise king makes laws and plans that will benefit not only Him but His Citizens as well.
The will of the King is the will of His citizens, over whom He has power of life and death. When the King summons them, they drop everything and obey Him. Otherwise, they continue with their daily lives living in accordance with His rules and guidelines. They rarely see their King or appear before Him.
The Citizens
They obey the King and represent the King and are His ambassadors, soldiers and servants.
The Work of a Citizen of The Kingdom
A citizen of a kingdom has four duties only and these take precedent over their own needs:
To serve the king as required by him through obedience to Him.
To represent the king to persons both in and out of the kingdom either in an official capacity or just by virtue of being a citizen of the kingdom.
To fight and protect what the king owns and wants.
To be a good steward of what God has entrusted Him with.
You cannot do these things if you do not know what The King requires you to do and you cannot tell others about Him if you do not know what to say about Him, what He has done for them and His requirements of them and you cannot defend The King’s property if you do not know what it is or how to defend it.
The other comment is that The Kingdom of Heaven is not on earth (except where the influence of Jesus as Lord is) so all the things pertaining to it are spiritual but expressed in a physical world.
How does a Christian represent The Kingdom?
Jesus gave the following commands to His disciples. If they do not apply to us it leads to the ridiculous scenario that we do not have to tell people about Jesus and all that He did was limited to his own generation. It also means we are at the mercy of demons and cannot heal or be used to show God power! This makes Christianity a very dull religion indeed instead of a vital way of living.
The things that follow are what Christians should be doing. It was commanded of all His followers, not just the Apostles. The verses are as follows:
"Mat 28:19-20 (AV) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: {teach…: or, make disciples, or, Christians of all nations} Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mark 16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Luke 22.19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. (Note this meal was to be remembered not a ritual based on a cup of wine and some bread)
Luke 24:46-47 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Jn15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. {power…: or, the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you}"
A summary as follows:
They will go to all Nations and witness to a risen Jesus
They will preach repentance and remission of sins in Jesus Name
Baptize them in the Name of the Trinity
Teaching them what Jesus requires of them
They will love others as Jesus loves them
They will fellowship together and remember what Jesus when they eat together.
Showing the following signs promised by Jesus through those whom had His delegated authority:
They shall cast out demons (free people from the bondages of the kingdom of Satan).
They shall speak in new tongues
They shall capture serpents and scorpions (common demons along with monkeys)
Poisons will not hurt them when their enemies give these to them
They shall heal the sick
These are the marks that should be a part of the Christian life. Any Christian not doing them is not following Jesus and what He commanded. Jesus went around doing good works and preaching, teaching and demonstrating the Gospel of The Kingdom (Mat 4:23) and any person or group (church) not doing this is not doing what Jesus commanded or demonstrating the Gospel of The Kingdom (Mat 4:23-24).
Furthermore, they use what they ‘own’ to meet their needs, but really, everything they ‘own’ is on loan from the King and He can recall any or all at any time which means they no longer have it to use for their own purpose. They are stewards on behalf of the King in respect to His Name (Delegated Authority), His Holiness, His Teachings, His Possessions and His Love.
When war is declared, they are called to serve the King and country or suffer the consequences of not doing so. (As they live in enemy territory they are always in a state or readiness to battle and are in constant communication with their King to know when to battle or just maintain what H has given them to be stewards of). The King trains them for war, using some of His battle-experienced servants to do this. He pays His citizens a wage (reward) for serving in His army. There are also other rewards for serving Him well in other areas of service.
The citizen has two objectives - securing the welfare of the King and His Kingdom and securing the welfare of his own family. Pleasing the King has priority over pleasing his own family. Ignoring the King could prove fatal to his life. The advice of His Councillor (The Holy Spirit) should also be obeyed as ignoring His advice could also prove fatal.
The King’s laws and manual for battle are to be followed (The Bible). You do not follow these laws at your own peril as you risk the anger and judgment of The King. The Kings messenger is to be obeyed (The Holy Spirit) as ignoring Him could also prove fatal.
The Kings uses His subjects to build His kingdom according to His plan for it. This means we must know our part in His plan or at least what he wants us to do to fit in with His plan. For this we look to:
His laws and guidance in The Bible
The Holy Spirit as we listen to Him in our daily walk with Him,
The Guiding Gifts of The Holy Spirit and
Spirit-inspired prophecy (as interpreted to us by The Holy Spirit).
Jesus builds His Church and only as each part of the Body fulfils its function is it built in accordance with His plans. Anyone trying to build the Church without His guidance is probably hindering the work of Jesus.
People talk about the Church as if it’s a group of people or a building. That is incorrect. The Church is the Kingdom of God on Earth unified and guided by The Holy Spirit. People should be talking about the Kingdom and its unity amongst Christians rather than about churches, which are divided into denominations, factions and separatist groups, all of which divide the Body and the Kingdom.
By definition, denominational rules or guidelines are an addition to the Bible or an emphasis to just parts of it, and thus, modify it in some way, even if just by removing the guidance of The Holy Spirit through denominational charters, rules for meetings and elections or appointments. Denominational rules or other guidelines of men always breed legalism, lovelessness, expediency, and hierarchy with its problems of pride and status.
The church is the Kingdom of God on Earth and has only one Ruler - Jesus. He appoints mature people to guide it, but He alone is the Authority over it. As citizens of His Kingdom, we represent Him and His Kingdom, and we are the only representatives whom people see who portray The Kingdom. When churches do not have the power of The Kingdom, they are merely social clubs and become irrelevant, having the form of Godliness but not the power. Any church not demonstrating The Kingdom of God falls into this category. They do not display Jesus by their life or activities and may hinder His Work
If you are not preaching, teaching or demonstrating The Gospel of The Kingdom without any valid reason for not doing so, you are as those who have the appearance of Godliness (God’s representative) but are denying the Power of God and possibly are not even saved. A lack of knowledge as to how to do this is a valid reason as there are few people who teach us how to live as a citizens of The Kingdom of God. This does not take away from the responsibility you have to learn how to do this.
The early Church demonstrated the Kingdom of God in their lives, and the Kingdom grew dramatically. The most of the modern western church does not do this and is dying or is becoming compromised with worldly religious practices in order to survive. The Kingdom is in us and must manifest. If it does not, then you had better find out why. The worst possible scenario is that you are not a member of the Kingdom, and thus, not saved. If you are not being used by God to deliver people, heal them or defend the Kingdom and this is not out of ignorance (as many are not taught this by churches), then I suggest you examine your salvation carefully.
Serving Jesus
We serve and represent Him and show and are used to show His Glory and Majesty.
Any time we try to show off our own glory and majesty we no longer represent Him or serve Him
These will be declared by Him and shown in accordance with His will and as a recognition and reward for serving Him.
Unto Jesus
Matt 25:45 "He answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me."
Jesus is ruler of everything so whatever you do affects The Kingdom of God in some way, either to advance it or reduce its influence. In this it affects Jesus directly as He is it’s King. It is even more so where moral values are concerned, such as His Love expressed through us, or obedience to Him s involved.
If it is done ‘unto Jesus’ it will be His Will that is being done, for His purposes, in His timing, in His chosen place, using His chosen method and using the things He has provided for you to do the act of obedience to Him.
To be living in obedience, as required by Matt 6:33, everything you do will be done ‘unto Him’ or it will not be done ‘unto Him’ but for the possible benefit of Satan. If it is not done ‘unto Him’ while it may serve His Will in some way it also assists His enemy.
Paul state this two ways in Colossians:
Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
As followers of Jesus all we do should be done in His Will and Authority and done ‘unto Him’ and not to please man. Our focus should be Jesus and His Will as it is Him we serve and as He directs us, to others.
So as you walk in your life, remember whatever you do affects he Kingdom of God and thus Jesus in some way.
Jesus never asks us to do more than we can do (1 Cor 10:13)
Jesus is pure Love and will never ask you to do more than you can handle. He will prepare you for the service and help you with it in anyway He can and will support you through it and use the event to train and mature you. Satan will try and convince you that you cannot do it, or that Jesus has forgotten about you or that you are inadequate for the task. His objective is to stop you doing what God wants you to do and will do anything to achieve this aim of his.
Stay focused on the Love of your King and ignore the lies of his enemy and you will succeed in whatever your King asks you to do.
How did Jesus Live
He taught the principles God required for living to all who would listen (discipling) as well as those who did not know them (evangelism) and warned those that knew them who did not obey them.
He demonstrated the authority, power and character of a citizen of The Kingdom of God.
He gave His life for the purposes of God.
He lived a life led by its guide (The Holy Ghost) bringing honour to His Father and furthering the purposes of The Father.
He lived a life of Love, showing the Character of The Father (Love) and the attitudes a follower of His should have.
He defended His Father’s Name and Laws.
He sought His Father’s Will in all areas.
This is how we should live as a follower of Jesus!
Holiness and The Kingdom
Be ye holy; for I am holy." 1 Peter 1:16
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: (1 Cor 1:30)
Holiness is our response to Salvation It is separation from all aspects of the enemy kingdom and the embracing of all matters relating to The kingdom of God and our King, Jesus. It is an attitude of being wholly (holy) for Jesus and His Kingdom.
All are redeemed – Jesus died for all but only those that call Him Lord and obey Him voluntarily are saved. They are in a righteous relationship through accepting what Jesus offers them. As a result of this relationship He sanctifies them (sets them apart for His purposes).
These ‘sanctified’ people then pursue Holiness, setting themselves apart for Jesus and His purposes as a response to what He has done for them.
It is for the sake of this holiness and the work God wants to do in them that they work at the salvation they now have.
Holiness is a response to God’s Love and Lordship, without which we cannot see or serve God.
One of the definitions of Holiness is as follows: "Hallowed; consecrated or set apart to a sacred use, or to the service or worship of God; a sense frequent in Scripture; as the holy Sabbath; holy oil; holy vessels; a holy nation; the holy temple; a holy priesthood."
There are only two kingdoms. No man-made structures or organizations exist in the spiritual realm. Denominations, associations, home churches, etc. do not exist in the spiritual. You belong to one kingdom or the other. The kingdom to which you separate yourself is the one in whose purposes you believe and whose purposes you serve. It is the one you to which you are "holy". You cannot be in both - there are no fence sitters in the spiritual realm.
Jesus said in Matthew 6: 24: No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
You will either serve Jesus or through indifference to what God requires of you, serve His enemy, the devil (even if only because of passivity). Holiness is not just separating yourself for the purposes of Jesus, but also for the expansion of His Kingdom, which is really what the Great Commission is about. The mark of one who wants to expand the rule of His King is that he works with what His King has given him for the purposes of the King, in the King’s appointed place in The King’s timing in the way He wants them to use what He has given them.
Jesus has given us His delegated authority to cast out the enemy and heal people of the ravages of the enemy. He has also given His Holy Spirit to guide us in serving Him along with His gifts to use in fighting His enemy. If these are not part of your life then you will have difficulty in doing what God requires of you.
It is the casting out of demons, healing and use of the gifts that set the early Church apart from other religious organizations and which sets the Christian apart from the world around them. It is the demonstration of the Love of Jesus through the use of these gifts that draws a person to Jesus.
Jesus said we would do greater works (in quantity) than Him, so we should be seeing these in our lives. Only as we are Wholly (holy) set upon His purposes and plans given to us by our Lord and Master can we demonstrate the Kingdom of God through our life and practice.
What attitudes should we have as a citizen of the Kingdom of God?
When referring to the qualities of the attitudes/virtues we have in heaven versus those we have on earth, it is a matter of degree, not difference. This, then makes earth the training place for these attitudes to be learned and developed. They are furthered in heaven in regard to their degree of purity and intensity but the process is begun on earth. When in heaven we will no longer need faith, hope or the knowledge of how to defeat Satan, but we will always need Love and the way it is expressed (1 Cor 13:13). Hence, Jesus’ emphasis on Love.
A warning about relationships
The Bible is a book of relationships - how people interact with God, each other and Satan. This principle of relating correctly is so important that salvation and eternal life are the result of a relationship (Jn 17:3). There is even an order in these interactions that must be obeyed for life to be as God wants it to be:
Relationship to God
Relationship to your family
Relationship to people where you work
Relationship to people you minister too.
We are given guidelines on how to relate that can be summarized as follows:
You are to love God wholeheartedly and to love others as God love us. Then you will have the conscience void of offence to all and avoid the two problems of unforgiveness or unresolved offence against another that prevent ministry being acceptable to God.
You cannot do anything worthwhile that God can accept if a person has an offence against you and you have not tried to reconcile to that person. God was in Christ reconciling the world (people in it) to Himself so we have the same responsibility with others. The requirement is to try, not necessarily to succeed as the other person may not accept reconciliation. Until you try and reconcile, you cannot give your gift (ministry) to God. It just stands before the altar being unacceptable (Mat 5:23,24).
You must forgive others as has God forgiven you at Calvary otherwise He cannot forgive you your sins and you do not go to heaven (Mat 6:14,15). Salvation is by faith and obedience to Jesus. He requires you to forgive others as He forgives you. Not to do this is disobedience and hypocrisy and The Bible says a hypocrite will not come before God (Job 13:16) and if you do not come before God you are not saved.
The other thing that can lose you your salvation is unrepented disobedience (Rev 3:5)
God wants people who love as he does and who can minister in that love. While you have offended others and do nothing about it you are not showing love to them. While you have unforgiveness in our heart to another you are not loving them. You are a hypocrite and you cannot come before God.
Until you love as God loves, or at least try to He cannot and will not use you as he wants and may not be able to accept what you give Him and you may even be going to hell. God honours our efforts to do His Will, even when we fail, as our heart is in a right attitude towards Him. He cannot and will not accept us when our heart is hardened not to do His will as we are rejecting His Lordship and The Kingdom and the salvation that comes with it.
God is Love. We are His followers. We should Love as He does.
Self esteem, self-worth, self-value and criticism
These should come from what God thinks of us and not from what the world considers to be of value, worth or esteem, as things of the world are determined by Satan and are usually contrary to the things of God or corrupted to lead you astray form The Word of God.
You have value, worth and esteem because of your relationship with God. As long as you try and do the Will of God then no one can condemn you as God alone is your judge. As long as you try and live as God wants you to live no one has the right to criticize you as you are living according to God’s standards and not those Satan has thrust on the world.
All you can really do is say to a person "Jesus says in the Bible this and you are not doing it", Then follow the guidelines for dealing with unrepented sin in the Bible if they will not repent.
When you are doing the work of God it is not you they criticise or condemn but God whose Will you are doing.
Never let the emotional problems or weaknesses of another be transferred to you as Satan will try to do that. Help people but do not accept their criticism without first evaluating the truth of it and reject any guilt they try and place on you. If the criticism is correct then you have a learning process and a need for deliverance. Not knowing something or making mistakes does not make you inferior but wiser if dealt with correctly.
It is natural for Satan to use others to try and reduce your self-worth, self-esteem and self-value as then you will be negative in your attitude to your abilities and not serve Jesus as you desire to as you do not believe you can. So do not fall for this trap. Jesus loves you as you are and not as you think you should be.
How to handle negative remarks about yourself and Criticism
If a person criticizes you or attacks you verbally you must remember not to react. Satan wants you to react so he can use any thought patterns or behaviour he has convinced you to accept and thus cause further problems with you self-image and self-esteem.
So you listen impartially to what they say and evaluate it (if necessary with the help of the Holy Spirit). It they are correct in what they say about you then you must change. If they are not correct then they have emotional hurts that cause them to make others look more worse than they are so that they feel better about themself. They may even need your ministry to free them.
People who try and control you are emotionally damaged and need deliverance so do not accept their control as control is a form of witchcraft.
If you come across anyone who is damaged and trying to abuse or control you then they need deliverance and understanding, not aggression or reaction to them. They have had enough abuse in the past without you attacking them more as you defend your own inadequacies. If you find yourself reacting then you also need deliverance as you are protecting your own inadequacies by attacking them or defending yourself.
You must learn to love the person as Jesus does but not accept their sin.
This is how Jesus dealt with His opponents. They tortured Him, spat on Him, whipped Him then killed Him but He still loved them, forgave them and died for them.
Heavenly Attitudes
We are being prepared to live in the kingdom of heaven which is why we are told to develop certain attitudes on earth. Satan makes it hard by placing around us things that make us want to have attitudes opposite to those God desires us to have.
So What attitudes does God want us to have:
God’s Love
His Servant heart
A desire to obey God and God–given authority
Trust in God
Holiness to God
So how should this affect out lifestyle:
We should reject the things the world offers that are opposite to the King’s values
We should pursue His attitudes in all we do to prepare for heaven as well as serve Him on earth
We will get to know our King as best we can so we can relate better to Him now and in Heaven
We will trust The King that it is worth living this way (rewards Heb 11:6))
We will work with the resources the King give us and not those of His enemy
We will study the King’s guidelines and listen to His advisor (Holy Spirit)
We will tell others about what our wonderful King offers to all
We will put all His purposes before ours!
Attitudes to living as a Citizen of The kingdom of God
Mat 6:30-34
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
There are various principles these verses:
v30 God cares for inanimate things how much more will he take care of His Children
v31 So we should not worry about our provision for this life
v32 People who do not know God seek for these things as they do not realise God will provide it to those who seek Him and His Kingdom (His Purposes)
v33 As you seek God’s Kingdom (His will and purposes) He will give you all you need to do His work.
v34 You have enough things to deal with today without looking for things in the future to deal with and thus ‘worry about them’.
Each day He has things for you to do and by focusing elsewhere you actually waste time and give yourself less time to do what He wants you to do. It is only as you focus in all you do on Jesus and His Kingdom will you do what Jesus wants you to do. As you do His will you walk in the path He has prepared from before the creation of the world and you will be where He needs you to be to bless you, protect you and give you all you need to live and serve Him. This path will end in salvation and a mansion in heaven.
So the way to not worry and be anxious about the future is to do God’s Will as He reveals it to you and trust Him for the rest as He promises to provide all you need in this life if you do that. This provision includes preparation for the future as well as a future and a hope in heaven with Him.
Planning for the Future
Do you need to know the future? Not if Matt 6:33 is correct and you believe that Jesus is in complete control of our life because you are a citizen of his Kingdom seeking the furtherance of His Kingdom and being in a correct relationship with Him.
Matt 6:33 implies we do not need to plan or save for the future. God may still tell you to plan certain things or save for a thing but saving for the sake of saving or planning as you cannot see what God is going to do implies He will not meet your needs and that He lied in Mat 6:33.
There are things you may need to plan for the future (usually budgeted for) and these are a result of the laws of the land. Income tax, legal requirements and documents and similar may need to be planned for to prepare them properly. That is not the business of The kingdom but of being a good citizen of the land and doing what is required by the legislative authorities (rendering to Ceaser what is Ceaser’s).
What then should you concentrate on each day? Hearing The Holy Spirit so you can be led by Him and know God’s Will for you.
Should we purchase luxuries? The Bible says to be moderate in all we do. Anything not purchased for the sake of The Kingdom of God will lead you astray and take money from what should have been applied to the purposes of The Kingdom.
Satan would have you waste resources; money, time, possessions, gifts that God has given you to use for The Kingdom. He will have you overdo things or commit yourself excessively to things so you will be too busy to do the things of God and may even turn your activities into an idol.
If what you does not further The Kingdom of God in some way or draw you closer to God, do not do it or plan to do it. Hence the need to be led by The Spirit of God each moment of the day.
God’s Peace
What is God’s Peace?
God’s peace is that state which occurs when one completely trusts God’s Love, Control, Purposes or Plan in all the circumstances that happen to them. It is evidenced by a calm mind that has no fear, worry or anxiety whatever is happening. This attitude of mind occurs as Satan cannot find any reason for them to doubt God’s Love, Control, Purposes or Plan for their life as they trust God completely. They do not care what He allows to them as they believe Rom. 8:28 (all works for their good as God is in control of the situation) and Heb 11:6 (He is a rewarder).
They have on their heart the same things as Jesus- the manifestation of The Kingdom of God in the lives of people and do not care what it costs as they know they have better in the next life than what the world offers them. Thus Satan cannot bind or snare them with the things of his world as these are not important to them as the things God gives them to use for His Kingdom or has for them in their home in heaven.
They are content with what God gives them as anything they grasp apart from that may lead them astray and stop them doing His work. Thy love Him and gladly put aside their pleasures and luxuries for His things.
Their life is thus a continual worship to Jesus as His Will (His requirements, purposes and guidelines) are their focus in all they do. They will continually behold His Face in Heaven and be in His safety and presence on earth in all they do.
Husband and wives that walk in unity of Spirit like this doing all in His Name are especially blest as He is always in their midst (as they are two or three gathered in His Name). So any marriage lived this way will demonstrate the character of Jesus and His Kingdom and will walk in continual blessings.
No Peace for The Wicked
Is 48: 22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
As the days become more darker and evil continues to run its course until it is fulfilled and the Antichrist is manifested the wicked will have less and less peace. They will search for peace and outside of Jesus will not find it.
This is the time that the peace of a Christian in the midst of all the turmoil and trouble will speak the loudest and demonstrate that they are of a different kingdom to the one the wicked belong too.
Learn to have peace in your trials and to be content with what ever God allows to happen to you and then you will be ready to answer the wicked when He asks why you have peace and you will have the right to point Him to Jesus as you will be living what you are preaching to them.
Only those who have found how to have peace and be content when all around them is in turmoil or being destroyed will be able to preach peace with Jesus in the last troubled days of this current spiritual age of the earth.
The Witnesses to our Life
Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
The Bible states that many watch our spiritual progress and service on earth and a list will show you that you are on display to so many that you would behave differently if you realised this.
A basic list is as follows:
God (Father, Son, Holy Ghost)
Satan and Demons
Guarding and Recording Angels
Angels in heaven
People in heaven
People on earth
So remember this when you sin that you are not alone as others have seen it and know what you have done and will try and use it against you in some way.
THere are those that watch us that encourage us to keep going (those in Heaven) and there are those that seek to destroy us (Satan and his demons) but ultimately it is up to you and what you will accept from God or Satan that determines your eternal fate and your eternal place in The Kingdom of Heaven.
