A Matter of Time
Time is relative. Compared to eternity it is minuscule except for the fact we live in it and it hides eternity from us. When you consider the time we live on earth is such a small period of our eternal existence it has such a disproportionate effect on our eternal life because how we live during it determines whether we go to heaven as well as the rewards we are given in heaven and in eternity.
Because we have not experienced eternity we have no concept of it so time and its tyranny ordains all we do!
Satan uses time to hinder our faith through calling into question God’s Timing in doing things so that we get frustrated or lose faith in the promises God has given us. He does this to dishearten us and depress us so we look at events through the filter of time and not how God sees them in the light of eternity.
The Christian needs a perspective that is eternal but which also enables them to ignore the pressure time creates so they can live in time but not be controlled by it as their true home is in eternity, which they also live in as they are citizens of heaven whose time frame is eternal.
So what attitude do we need to see the eternal perspective of all things as well as deal with the matter of time, which Satan tries to use against us?
Mat 6:33. We do not look at our circumstances as they are experienced in time. We leave the future of both time and eternity to Jesus to deal with and obey Him each day in all He asks. If we do this He will provide all we need both in time and eternity
We must trust: God’s love, His control of all our circumstances, His Plans and purposes for us as well as His timing of the events in our life. He makes all things beautiful in His timing and not ours!
We need patent faith to wait for God’s timing, trusting Him for all that happens in time as well as eternity.
We must learn to look at things from God’s eternal, spiritual perspective so that we do not look at things from a perspective immersed in time.
It is only when we look at things as God sees them will we be able to cope with eternal things in our temporal existence. When we cannot see them as He does then we have to trust His Love for us (Rom 8:28).
Do we need to know the future? Not according to Matt 6:33.
Why then do we seek to know the future and control or provide for it?
God has placed in man an insecurity that can be filled only with Jesus or man’s reasoning. If it is filled with man’s reasonings then he will use the things of the world: pride, covetousness and pleasure (1 Jn 2:15-16) to secure his future. If He trusts Jesus then he does out worry about these things, but seeks Jesus and His Kingdom. He will trust God completely and obey God each day in all that God asks him to do!
What is on your heart is where your treasure will be. If Jesus is on your heart you will seek His things, If He is not you will seek the things of Satan and his world.
Jesus said that you cannot serve two monsters. You have on your heart either Jesus or the things of Satan’s world.
You can be a Christian and not have the things of Jesus on your heart. This is because of immaturity. You cannot say you belong to Jesus unless you seek His Kingdom, His righteousness and a deeper relationship with Him. Jesus requires you to continually seek Him and His Kingdom and if you fail at any time all He requires you is to repent of what you did wrong and to keep seeking these things.
You will not be condemned for wholeheartedly seeking the things of God. You will be condemned for not trying.
It is your choices that determine your perspective and your resultant usage of time and whether Satan or Jesus controls this.
As you apply malt 6.33 you work in His eternal Time scale but also in earthly time, If you do not apply Mat 6:33 then you are living in Satan’s time, and not eternity as you are doing things that are temporal and which are not of eternal significance.
The only real option a Christian has is the lifestyle of Mat 6:33 where you trust God’s Love, Control, Purposes and Plans for you and have your security in these and in the associated path God has for your life on which are all the good things He has for you now and in eternity!
