Jesus, our first love
What does it mean for Jesus to be your first love?
If Jesus is my first love
I will delight to be with Him at all times and
It will give me great joy to be in His presence.
I will willingly do things with Him and for Him
I will willingly serve Him with my whole heart and
What He asks me to do will be a joy and will never be too hard.
I will spend as much time as I can with Him
Learning about Him
Enjoying His presence
Seeking what He wants of me
And His purposes for me.
I will desire the day I will fellowship with Him in heaven face to face
The relationship with Him will give me so much pleasure and joy
That I will desire it above all else
Such should my attitude to Jesus be
You are my first love, My beloved
I desire always to be in your presence
with your love surrounding me
filling my heart with Joy
I long to sit with you and talk with you
as we share our hearts in love and Joy
as we exchange words of love and endearment.
My beloved, you are mine and I am Yours
Your love for me is infinite and eternal
encompassing all my needs
Now and in eternity
What can my love give me
that He has not give me
What more can my beloved promise in eternity
That He has not already promised
How much more can He give than Himself
My beloved I am yours and desire no other
I have no desire but to be with you
and to serve you
I have no greater desire than to love you with all I am
No greater desire than to spend eternity in your presence.
You are my love and my life beloved
Now and forever
Jesus My First love
If Jesus is your first love every other love will be secondary and the love relationship you have with Him will influence everything you do.
How do people in love behave?
They desire each others company, to be with each other and hear each other’s voice, to serve each other and look after the things of the other. They do all this out of love for them and will sacrifice themselves or their possessions if necessary for the sake of this love. They trust each other and desire what is best for the other. To be away from the other causes heartache and distress until they are safely restored to the love relationship.
The desire of your love is Jesus and you seek to please him in all you do. You will do all you can to deepen the relationship because you desire it so much. You also know life on earth is a period of training for heaven where you will get to know Jesus better. So you should seek those things that help you in developing this closeness with Him.
You are in a preparatory period on earth and should live like this as you prepare yourself to spend eternity with your first love.
This period is preparation for the marriage supper of the lamb where the actual fellowship supper will take place and then you will live for eternity with your first love in one of His mansions He has prepared for you where he will provide for all your need and give you delights beyond knowledge in His presence and in His Love.
Your love for Jesus is so strong and beautiful that there can be no thought of ever leaving Him or harming Him in any way.
How did this relationship begin?
Where is my beloved?
That I can go to Him
Be with Him and rest in His Love
Where is my beloved
That I may delight in His Voice
And Share my heart with Him
Strengthen me my beloved
So I can be with you forever!
Your relationship to your beloved began when God made you so you could be with Him in eternity where He would provide all your needs, not just in this life but for ever in the next life with Him.
When this relationship was broken He sought to restore it and made it possible through Jesus (God manifested in the flesh). He is calling you to follow Him and sit with Him in eternity.
The relationship began because of God’s Love for you when you were yet unborn and is carried on now through your relationship to Jesus as your Lord as well as your first love.
How does God see you?
Jesus desires you to serve Him because He is your beloved not because He is Lord. If He is not your beloved and you serve Him only because He is Lord you have the lesser of the two relationships He desires with you. Remember that demons serve Him because He is Lord not because they want too.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said to him, "’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
John 17:25-26 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
What Jesus Commanded you to do out of love for Him
My beloved asks and I hasten to do His Will
My desire is to serve Him
and tell others of His Love
So they too can enjoy what I have been given by Him
Hasten My Love to tell me Your Will
So I can do it for you
And give you pleasure and Joy in my love for you
So that my joy in You will be complete
Jesus gave the following commands to His disciples. If they do not apply to you, it leads to the ridiculous scenario that you do not have to tell people about Jesus and all that He has done for you (in other words you do not have to preach teach and demonstrate The Kingdom of God), because this was limited to His own generation.
These things are what Christians should be doing for their first love so the whole world will know of His Love for them and how wonderful it is to be in a love relationship to Him. These commands were commanded of all His followers, not just the Apostles.
The verses are as follows:
"Mat 28:19-20 (AV) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: {teach…: or, make disciples, or, Christians of all nations} Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mark 16:15-18 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe;
In my name shall they cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents;
and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Luke 22.19 -20 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Luke 24:46-47 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Jn 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Acts 1:4, 8 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. …But ye shall receive power, after that the Power of the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
A summary is as follows:
If you love Jesus you will do your best to do His Will in these things He has commanded. You will:
Teach all Nations (make disciples)
Preach repentance and remission of sins in the Name of Jesus
Witness to Jesus in all the world
Baptise His followers in the Name of the Trinity
Celebrate what Jesus did in the unity of The Holy Spirit (communion and fellowship)
Demonstrate the signs (the expression of The Kingdom of God on earth) promised by Jesus to those whom have His delegated authority:
Cast out demons
Speak in new tongues
Poisons or dangerous animals will not hurt you
Heal the sick
Love others as Jesus loves them
Fellowship together and remember Jesus when they eat together as well as what He did and taught.
Wait for God to empower them and your power will come From The Holy Spirit working on your behalf.
If Jesus is your first love you will do these things and they will be a natural expression of your love for Him as you will delight to tell others about your beloved, what He has done for you and what He can do for them. You will also demonstrate the power and authority of His Kingdom in accordance with the degree of spiritual authority He gives you.
If you do not do these things out of Love for Jesus you need to find out why and deal with the issues preventing you from expressing your love for Jesus in this way.
Perhaps deliverance is necessary on some part of your life so you can be free to fully enter into the love relationship you should have with Jesus, your first love
The Work of Jesus
Your work is my delight
a pleasure of my love for you
I delight to do it
to give you joy and pleasure
It is a light task
to serve my beloved
for the Joy it will give Him
Jesus died on a cross. That was the sacrifice of Jesus and not His work. This sacrifice was an expression of His love for you, that He was willing to give up His life for you as well as all He had in heaven as God!
His work was described as doing good and preaching the gospel of the Kingdom and was evidenced by the manifestation of The kingdom in all He did.
His doing good consisted of:
Raising the dead
Healing the sick
Casting out demons
Explaining God’s requirements to us
Illustrating God’s intimate Love for us
If Jesus is your beloved you will do these things out of love for Him so others are freed to love Him as you do. Ministry cost Jesus everything What are you willing to give up to do the work of Jesus. If He is your beloved you will willingly give up all for Him, including your life.
If He is your beloved, nothing on this earth will matter except the way He wants to use you for His service as well as the joy this service will give Him!
Who is Jesus?
Before creation You were
God and Saviour
Ruler of All
Redeemer of All
waiting for the time
when you could come to earth
and show God’s Love for me
God of ALL Love
My beloved!
John, in his gospel history, commences it by informing people about Jesus: Who Jesus is, His credentials and His reasons for doing what He did (v1-5)
His credentials as God are listed by John:
He is God
He was there with God before time began
He made all things
He is the life of all people
God revealed himself to people but they could not understand this revelation (v 4-5) which is why Jesus came to explain God’s requirements (v7)
Jesus reveal God (The Father) to mankind (v6-9).
John The Baptist revealed Jesus was the person God was going to use to rescue people from the world system of Satan and instruct them about God’s requirements of them.
Jesus would be rejected (v10-11)
The world He made was now ruled by His enemy, who rejected His authority in this world. Even His chosen people did not understand what was required of them (v17)
He would give life to all who believe in Him (v12-13)
Those who accepted Jesus and placed their trust in Him, obeyed His requirements of them and carried out His purposes would become God’s children (by adoption) and would be Loved by God.
Was seen by people as a man (v14-15)
He has finished His work as a man (v16)
Jesus has come and finished His work. We can receive no more from Jesus as He has given it all already. We now need to mature into what He has done for us.
He Taught What God requires (v17)
He taught us about God’s Love and truths so we can live as God requires of us. He gave us The Holy Spirit to help us in this and in fact The Holy Spirit is your teacher giving you understanding of the things of God.
And could teach what God required as He had seen God because He is God (v18).
We did not know we needed to be saved or relate too Him as our first love. God’s Grace has shown us this and it is nothing we did or were capable of doing. What more can your first love do for you than He has already done?
What makes Jesus attractive to people?
Your are more beautiful than all that is created
Nothing compares to your Grace and Poise
Your Love radiates in all you do
and lights my life with Joy
As I see your love for Me
The freedom He offers you from:
Judgment and Hell
Purposelessness
Worry
Fear
Anxiety
Loneliness
Failure
Satan’s mind games
The hope He gives you in this evil world
A place in Heaven
A relationship with God
A positive outlook for life and eternity
Victory over His enemies
All we need to live here and in heaven
The healing He gives you from the damage of Satan on you
Emotional
Mental
Spiritual
Physical
If you do not give these offers of Jesus to the people, what reason is there for them to follow Jesus? What reason is there also for falling in love with Jesus.
Preaching should not condemn. (Jn 3:17 Jesus did not come to condemn) but should give solutions, correction, encouragement, warnings, freedom (truth that sets free) and hope. The lover does not condemn his love but is gentle with them and seeks to help them correct their weaknesses and faults, as Jesus does with all who love him and this is how we ought to minister.
Only God can condemn and He chooses not to do so. He uses your own words and actions to judge you and rewards you according to how you valued His instructions and possessions that He gave you to be stewards of, which will be a reflection of your love for Him and whether you truly loved Him as your first love.
What Jesus Taught
Your words are life
and give me Joy
They guide me in all I do
They tell of your Love for me
They tell of what you have done for me
They tell of all you have prepared for me
They tell of our togetherness in eternity
Truly your words give me Hope and Joy
and are my strength, my motivation,
My life and Pleasure in all I do
My beloved is Mine
and His words are of me and for me
What more can I ask
What more can I desire.
Jesus taught reconciliation with The Father through faith in what Jesus had done and that everything really begins with the restoration of the relationship between yourself and God.
He taught the entrance to The Kingdom of God and becoming a citizen of it as being a result of that restoration and that with it came privileges, benefits and requirements.
He taught freedom from the kingdom of the enemy through this restoration.
He taught that wholeness, physical and spiritual through this restoration and the healing that came from it.
He taught this relationship was worth more than any other relationship we have, any possessions we have, any ideals or purposes we have, or any desires we have. It is worth much more than anything the world offers.
He taught us to look to the next life where our rewards really are and not to this life where the rewards are transient and only satisfy for a short time. You are only passing through this world and have no real permanent home here but will in heaven.
He taught us how to follow the purposes of The Father and then, as a child of The Kingdom, He would provide our needs but not our greeds Mat 6:33).
He taught us that Love was more important than anything else because God is Love, a self-giving servant and if we reflect His nature, we will also be like Him in this.
He taught us that God Loves us as we are and desires to change us for our best and not just for His purposes. It is as we patiently do His purposes we are changed
He taught us to live this life by His example showing how to relate to God and how to serve God as we should.
He taught us to seek first The Kingdom of God and His righteousness - to seek first the correctness of the relationship, the Love of God and the meeting of God’s requirement to Love as He does and He would provide all we need. It is a relationship of Love and not of fearful obedience.
It is as we express this love relationship in our life that His purposes are done and The Kingdom expanded.
He taught us that God is Love and that we should never doubt this and to build our lives and service on this relationship of Love. Obedience is out of Love for your first love, by choice, by desire, by faith and not by fear of hellfire, fear of damnation or fear of judgment.
Judgment was dealt with at the cross for all who follow Him, condemnation was removed at the cross, shame was removed at the cross, guilt was removed at the Cross and the Law was declared to no longer affect us as we are no longer under The Law but under God’s Grace as found in Jesus because of what Jesus did on the cross.
As He loves you, you should fear these things no more and only fear the weakness of your flesh and the weakness of any lack of resolve in doing His will in case you end up lukewarm, like the church He will spew out of His mouth.
You should trust in His Love for you, being secure in the relationship with Him, The Father and The Holy Spirit knowing full well that anything done for you, by them, will never be wasted but will have eternal consequences and as it is done in love. It will only deepen the your relationship with Jesus as you see God meet your needs in wonderful ways, after all, what person does not provide for their beloved abundantly above what they desire of him.
This relationship can only be really occur in unity with Jesus (through the common Holy Spirit in you both) which is desired because Jesus is your beloved!
These desires only occur when you have the same purposes and direction as Jesus as if you are one in mind and will.
When He is your beloved you will do all necessary to develop this relationship and do the things He wants you to do.
How is this Relationship deepened?
How do I draw closer to you my beloved
How do I become one with you in heart and purpose
So that your Will is my will
Your heart my heart
And all I do is a reflection of you
Be my strength and guide beloved
So I can please you and give you joy
because my heart and mind are as yours
And no longer are of my flesh
And because I will be one with you now and in eternity
To deepen this relationship:
You need to be able to hear The Holy Ghost so he can to guide you on behalf of Jesus
You must be also willing to hear The Holy Ghost’s guidance.
We must be willing to act on what you are told by the Holy Ghost
We must be willing to pay the cost required to act on what you hear
You must be willing to put the purposes of Jesus ahead of your own purposes.
This is achieved through obedience to the Holy Spirit and is done out of love for Jesus and a resultant desire to do His will without recognition or reward because of the love you have for Him as your first love. This love is a result of what He has done for you at Calvary, is doing for you now and will do for you in the future on earth and in eternity.
True service for Jesus is done out of love for him and without any desire for recognition or reward.
It is the result of an appreciation of what He suffered for you at Calvary as well as of the freedom and provision He gives you because of His Love for you.
Pure Love
Your Love for Jesus must be pure and not tainted by being for the things He has done for you, is doing for you or will do for you. What He does for you encourages you to love Him but should not be the reason you love Him. You should love Him because of who He is (your first love) and not because of what He can do for you.
You love Him because He first loved you. Your love for Him is there in spite of anything that happens as it is not based on things He can do for you, or gifts, or meeting your desires but is based on the beauty of who He is as a person as well as the relationship He has with you as your first love.
This is love at its purest and is the love demanded of Christians and of you to your first love, Jesus.
Your love for Jesus must develop to where it is unconditional, not dependant on what He has done, is doing or going to do for you. It is Love for who He is as a person.
When you have this love for Him you can then worship and obey in Holy Unity with Him and other Christians.
Just as faith without works is dead
So love without works is dead
Love is the basis of all ministry.
Your Love lifts me up
And rescues me from the darkness
So I will serve You
Because I love you
Because you have first loved me
What type of love?
Love for Jesus so you desire to serve Him and promote Him and His things above yourself and your own things.
Love for the person being ministered too because they belong to your beloved Jesus.
Love for how Jesus has made you so you desire to serve His purposes so others can be like He has made you.
A minister is a servant, in love humbling themself to serve another and promote Jesus by what is done in this service as well as help the other person know Jesus in some way through the service – even if only by their example of loving service)
Evangelism is love for others to know Jesus as Saviour as their first love and have the relationship with Him that He desires them to have with Him and which you have with Him.
Deliverance ministry is out of love for the person that desires to free them from all the hurts Satan placed on them so they can be fully free and healed and relate to Jesus as He desire them too.
Pastoral Ministry is love for the person, helping them through problems so they will be like Jesus desires them to be.
The basis of teaching is love for the person so you will impart to them what they need to be like Jesus desires them to be.
Service to Jesus may appear to have no reward but that does not matter as He is your first love and you are pleased to be able to serve Him as He asks regardless of any consequences of the service being seen by you.
The basis of all ministry is love for the person so you serve them and help them to be like Jesus desires them to be, in a relationship with Him as their first love.
How do we deny Him
Strengthen me beloved
So I never deny or reject you
But in all I do I will declare your Love
And strengthen others to love you And serve you
As You served The Father when on earth.
What happens if we deliberately do not do His work or obey His commands?
We deny Him. We reject Him and turn our back on Him. He is no longer our first love and we are in danger of hell fire.
You deny Jesus when you purposely ignore, modify or compromise His principles in any way by adding to them, taking away anything from them, altering them, rejecting them outright, rationalise or compromise them or not defending them to others.
You deny Jesus when something becomes more important than His requirements.
Do we defend His name when it is used as blasphemy?
Do we defend His moral code or purposes when they are misused or rejected?
Do we declare what He has done for mankind when we have a chance to do so?
Do we show His love to others when we are able to?
Do we identify with Him when it is necessary to do so?
Do we reject Him as our first love and thus reject His Love for us?
Do we demonstrate His Kingdom as He did when we have opportunity do to so?
Abstaining from doing something when you should act is passive denial, and a rejection of what Jesus wants you to do.
To not do what Jesus wants in any way is idolatry as you make your will more important than the Will of Jesus.
Have you denied Jesus?
Every time you willingly sin you deny (reject) Jesus.
Every time you do not uphold the Name of God or a person of The Trinity you deny Jesus
If you have sinned you need to repent and do what Jesus wants you to do as this restores the love relationship with Him as your first love.
In Conclusion
Your life will be judged by Jesus and He will look at how you related to Him during it as well as what you did on earth with the life He gave you. He will see if He was your first love or just another person to love and on this will depend your salvation and eternal life.
May we on arriving in heaven hear the words:
Welcome my beloved, My good and faithful servant
Enter into the Joy of your reward.
Jesus says:
Do you love me
Do you desire to hear my voice
and be in my presence
Do you desire to serve me
and protect my things
and tell others of my Love for you?
Do you hang on my every word
and race to perform it and please me
and to give me the Honour and Glory as it is done?
Do you desire me as your first love
and love me as such
and treat me as such?
Are you preparing yourself
to spend eternity with me
in My House?
I am your first love
am I important to you?
Am I desirable to you?
I long for you
to spend time with me
to sit beside me
When will you turn your face to me
and gaze upon my Love for you
and seek only me above all
Come my beloved
Your first love says come
Enter into your rest with me
I am your beloved
and you are mine
Come my Beloved.
Appendix: The Marriage feast of The Lamb
This metaphor cannot refer to marriage as in heaven they are neither given or taken in marriage so the marriage feast is not as we see marriage.
The Word ‘marriage’ also means ‘to put to things together’ or ‘a close and intimate union’ not necessarily a husband and wife situation. It also has the sense of marring something hence marr-iage.
So it cannot be a physical marriage resulting in the union of two bodies or souls, and marring their virginity
Or a spiritual marriage as we are on with Him through the spirit in us.
We are not the Bride as that is the City of New Jerusalem (Rev 21:12)
So what is it?
Is it the confirmation of the relationship we had on earth and verifies the union we have with Jesus as his followers through the one common Holy Spirit in us.
It is a communion feast that celebrates Jesus and the fellowship we will have with Him for eternity.
May we all be found worthy of the ‘Marriage Feast of The Lamb’ and may Jesus always be your first love
