F035A72.IMQ is one of the two images of the infamous face on Mars, the original image is 1204(W) x 1056(H) but has been resized here to 450 x 411 for size considerations. There are 9 steps in the processing process:

1) The original image.

2) Histogram has been stretched to improve brightness and contrast.

3) Noise removed with a median noise filter.

4) Reseau marks removed.

5) The nonuniform illumination across the image has been corrected.

6) Histogram restretched.

7) Image enhanced by using unsharp mask.

8) Noise from unsharp mask removed with median noise filter.

9) Aberations in the camera lens and vidicon have been removed by flat bed calibration as the first image processing step, then applying steps (2) to (8). The flat image was obtained by averaging 5 images of dust storms.
