Our Families & Their Stories

JAROD'S STORY

Hi I am a mum with 2 children one a very bright and over zealous 4 year old going on 25 and my son 3 who has experienced seizures since the age of 4 months and although developed normally for his first year has been unable to make that next step to toddler hood and has a suspected intellectual disability. He functions at about the level of a 12 to 14 month old in most area's with only a limited vocabulary of a constant changing 6 words.  He has tone problems that make him extremely wobbly which seems to be becoming even more obvious as he gets older.  He doesn't yet walk but is extremely mobile and able to crawl at quite a speed.

He is a very lovable little boy with a most infectious laugh.  I really don't care too much at this stage whether he walks or not I just want to think that he will remain happy and satisfied with his life with whatever comes. IDSC (intellectual Disabilities Council) are currently on board giving him as much help as they are currently able to offer.  I have in the past used RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) and for a time he had a lot of fun.  Hydrotherapy at the hospital was a lot of fun but in the end our time ran out.  Now I find by far the most effective, fun and most reliable service I receive is from EDP (Early Development Program).  The new friends I have made will stay in my heart for ever.

We all have our own story none of which is the same and what a dull life it would be if we had, but with that the similarities bring us together and we find great comfort in each others experiences and strength.
