Eagle Strike - the fourth, and
latest book in the series, the first one I read, and my favourite. This time
Alex is on his own - after his friends family is attacked, he feels he must
go after the person responsible. In the theme of Stormbreaker and
Johnny English, and just about any other MI(x) story you can poke a
stick at, that person happens to be a high profile celebrity - someone the
government likes - and doesn't want to lose. So, Alex and Jack Starbright,
his housekeeper, set off on a mission of their own. Luckily, Smithers,
Alex's gadgets-man couldn't help making him a whizz-bang grenade-armed bike,
which does come in handy. Alex soon (as is expected) discovers that there is
more to the nice-celebrity-man, Cray than a revolutionary new games console,
and I'll give you a hint as to what it might involve - missile, Air Force
One, KABOOM! Oooh, yay! We get to play with WMDs!!! Anyway, towards the end
of the book there is a huge revelation about Alex's father - and you can
find out for yourself!

From the book:
When his guardian dies in suspicious circumstances, Alex Rider goes from
schoolboy to superspy within days as his world is turned upside down.
Forcibly recruited into MI6, Alex has to take part in gruelling SAS
training. Then, armed with his own special set of secret gadgets, he's off
on his first mission. His destination is the depths of Cornwall, where
middle-eastern multi-millionaire Herod Sayle is producing his
state-of-the-art Stormbreaker computers. Sayle's offered to give one free to
every school in the country - but MI6 thinks there's more to the gift than
meets the eye. Only Alex can find out the truth. But time is running out and
Alex soon finds himself in mortal danger. It looks as if his first
assignment may well be his last... |
