Norwegian Folkdance Group

The pictures below are from The Scandinavian Children's Group, which has now changed to The Norwegian Folkdance Group.

The dance above is called "Tretur fra Fana"

The Norwegian Folkdance Group is based in Brisbane, Australia. It was originally started around 1984, and performed all over Brisbane with tours to New South Wales, ACT and Victoria.

In 1991, members of the group started the Scandinavian children's folkdance group, which have performed traditional Scandinavian folkdances all over Brisbane and the surrounding area, including in the City Hall for UNICEF, and for the opening of South Bank.

In 2000, the children's group was replaced by the Norwegian Folkdance Group again. The group performs in traditional National costumes, and will give a display of folkdances popular in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, including group dances, couple dances and songdances.

At times, the group has also been teaching some of the dances to the audience.

New members are always welcome. If you know someone who would like to join the Norwegian Folkdance Group, or you would like a quote for the group to perform, or just like to find out when the group's next performance is, please send an email by clicking here.

The group's opening dance, seen on the picture above, is called "Kjerringa med staven", which means "The Lady with the stick".
