Jaeger #24 - Beware of Freaks Bearing Gifts
A few weeks after Marc returns to home he receives an unexpected visitor in the form of Colonel Frank Cassidy, who says he has his records. Grudgingly, Marc lets him in, then races off upstairs to review his details. To his horror he discovers that his vampirism actually comes from artificially engineered virus that altered him on the genetic level. When he returns downstairs, he discovers that Cassidy has fallen asleep, and he is able to sneak a peek into his wallet. He finds a picture of Salome – once a member of Azharoth’s inner circle. It seems she was also Frank’s mother. When the Colonel wakes up, he and the Hunter exchange information about the defeat of Azharoth, then Frank asks Marc if he would like to join the US Army’s new psionic division, known as Psi Force. Marc says he’ll think about it, then Frank proposes a union of another kind. Marc is hesitant about this as until Frank reveals a very interesting psychokinetic talent that he has mastered. Later, the Hunter begins to feel like he is falling under the Colonel’s control. He bites him and drains some of his blood in the hope of making him quiet and compliant, but it backfires when he discovers that he can’t actually digest Frank’s blood. Cassidy reveals that he isn’t actually human, but he has no idea what he really is.
