Mission 14 On the Slab
Bored out of his head in hospital, Harrison Graves manipulates the minds of some of Marheg’s people, sowing discord. Mission is off active duty until he recovers and adjusts to his new cybernetic implants. He shows Shell his room, and she immediately jumps into his lap. Mission, who has no idea what to do, makes a complete idiot of himself and runs out in embarrassment. Shelly manages to calm him down and get him to reveal exactly what happened to him after he was cyborged. He explains that his programmer, Dr Vaughan, used nanobots to create links to the pleasure centres in his brain, then joined them to a single activation mechanism, called the “E-Switch”. At first his father, Dr Grayson, had complete control of this switch and only pressed it for Mission after he’d satisfactorily performed all his duties. When the doctor withheld the switch after Mission insulted him, his cyborg son lost the plot and tossed a scientist out of a window, right onto an incoming car. Grayson let Mission have limited control of his switch, but Mission had had enough, and escaped the Oasis. This story excites Shell so much she throws off all her clothes. Meanwhile, Lazarus One commences his journey.
