“Neil Diamond – The Ultimate Tribute” was conceived after the ‘Honeycombs’ broke up in 1977, I’m sure some of you will remember their No 1 hit “Have I the Right”. Al James went out with a new band and worked the major Cabaret Clubs, Theatres and Entertainment Centres throughout the UK and Europe.
Al was recording a demo disc in Germany and at that time Neil Diamond had just released ‘September Morn’. Al loved that song so much he included the track on the disc. Obviously the song was also performed at every concert.
Statement from Al James:
“I was totally amazed at the number of people asking if I did any more of Neil Diamond’s songs. It was a total shock to me as I believed I was a big voice singer, performing the big powerful songs like; Tony Christie, Tom Jones, Jay & the Americans etc. To have people from the audience say, “you sound so much like Neil Diamond, you should sing more of his songs”, so I decided to add more Diamond tunes because of the audience reaction and increase the size of the band, “The Ultimate Tribute” was born.
That was 33 years ago, since then Al has appeared at many major venues throughout the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Al is now a resident of Australia but still spends time in the UK and Europe.
