Goulburn River 26th June

Chris Myszka and I managed  a free day this weekend and were inspired by some terrific reports of dry fly fishing on the Goulburn. Well, before you read any further, it was great to get away, great to fish, great to have one of the delicious burgers from the chip shop in Thornton and great to catch up with the guys at GVFFC. Wetting the line was the best part and trying out my new Sage TCR even better. Why have I been fishing with poor quality for so long! Actually, the Innovator rod is pretty good as is the Strudwick...but the SAGE is sooooo good!

Now for the fishing. Reports indicated catches of 15 plus per day. Chris and I got one each. Mine was bigger than his. Mine was at least 10cm long! I didn't see Chris's fish but I think it came out of the same can of Sardines. We had a terrific fog over the river till lunch time but foolishly never took a photo. Was a great opportunity lost.

Spent the later part of the afternoon on the pondage. Chris managed to drop one on a barbless hook and i stuffed around with a sinking line instead of switching to a floater. Saw heaps of wombats on the way up and back but managed to keep the good lady wife's new Focus away from harms way.

Must be getting a bit old as i slept in to well past lunchtime next day.

Cheers.
