Harold Hodge’s Tasmanian Fiery Brown
Beetle
This is one of my favourite flies. It is simple to tie and yet an effective
fly, deadly on the high plains of Tasmania.
Materials include curved midge hook size 10 to 14, fiery brown seals fur,
black floss and beetle wing case. The photos are self-explanatory. Follow the
guidelines in the steps below to tie a really terrific Tasmanian fly.
Tie your floss just past the bend of your bug type
hook
Tie your bug wing case to the bend of the hook. Dub
on a fair amount of fiery brown nymph seals fur. You may need two or three goes
at it to get the right bulkiness in the body.
Once enough body has been tied on, flip the wing case
over the top of the body and tie off
Don’t forget a bit of head cement and to brush up
the seals fur with a Hodgey Velcro stick!
