The tying competition is well under way with olive nymphs, BMS
flies and Myszka specials tied for the year so far. Our next fly will be the
Wooly bugger Mark 2. Judging by the smiles on the guys faces, they are having a
great time and learning some new skills. Tying is a bit tough at first and we
soon discover that we have 2 left thumbs. I can assure you, that things do get
better. Trust me!
The fly tying competition is well under way. Judging by the numbers of
members present, things look like they are running well. Its good to see members
present supporting this initiative as it is one of the things that will help
club members form better friendships. This is aside from the fact that club
members are all learning new skills and the more able, sharing their expertise.
Whilst the competition is non profit, it is hoped that it will be able to run
its course without having to dip into club funds. It was budgeted to break even
with 10 tiers. However, with 18 paid up members for May, things are looking
great. We may even be able to buy a good hackle or two. Financial support with
the weekly raffle has also been great. I guess the bonus is learning how to
mount and frame your eight flies at the end of the competition and also the
extra flies tied during the month. In May we also tied pheasant tail nymphs and
hare and copper flies. Members who tied on all 4 nights would have tied at least
8 flies. Not bad value for $5
The flies chosen on a month by month basis will hopefully match the hatch.
With big trout chasing smelt at the moment, I am sure that the BMS flies will
come in handy in June.
Our 8 flies are
Olive Flash back Nymph
Olive BMS flies.
Myszka Special
Wooly buggers, mark 11’s
Olive Damsel nymph
Tom Jones
Royal Wulf
Parachute Adams
We have an influx of new members, tying away. Here are their new flies
under construction.

to have been banned from entering raffles!
