ALPHA 2 OMEGA COMPETITION - 2008 RESULTS

The following winners have been notified of their success and have been sent prize cheques and appropriate congratulations:

Poetry Section. The winning poems for Alpha2Omega 2008 Poetry Competition are both, on the surface, simple straightforward reflective poems. Yet they gently grasped my attention, giving me a sense of thankfulness for the past and hope for the future. .

Poem 1. This poem lifted my mind to higher planes of the love, peace, joy of so much around me. It spoke to my soul of hope and freedom - and allowing freedom to others. I was left smiling, as I too was reminded of the beauty and grace to be found in the natural environment. The Magic and Music of poetry.

Poem 2. In four short, four lined verses, this poet brought me to a conscious appreciation of not only the enduring poets and poems from the past, but the breadth of subject of those poems; of glorious noble thoughts; of the passion of striving for and upholding perfection; the treasure we have inherited.

In a world where so many writers/artists in many disciplines, seem to take no responsibility for the effect of their works on the readers/viewers, young or old, this was very refreshing.

Congratulations Poets. There were many entries - only two prizes. Keep writing everyone.

ALPHA 2 OMEGA COMPETITION - 2008 RESULTS
Short Story Section

There were many very good stories submitted in this 2008 Competition. Many had great merit and captured my attention, complying with my judging criteria. As I stated last year, this is -

COMMUNICATION
COMPOSITION
CREDIBILITY
CHARACTERISATION
CREATIVITY
SIMPLICITY
SUSTAINED IMPERATIVE.

With this in mind, I look for the story to -

GRAB MY ATTENTION IN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH
HOLD MY ATTENTION TO THE LAST LINE
"SHOW ME - DON'T TELL ME" ALL
TOUCH MY EMOTIONS
LEAVE A LINGERING IMPRESSION IN MY MIND.

Many did this, but the winning entries also communicated subtly a further element of uplift, spirit lifting - goals and values of beauty and love. After all, that is what we, as Christians, are all about. God Is Love.

The winning entry is meticulously written - short - concise, every word making an impact - so much teaching in so few words. Thank you for the opportunity to read so many wonderful stories.
