Sumatra 03
Three cheers!
Swell in Sumatra 6/03 was generally small with just half a dozen days (June 1,2,3,7,8,9) sizey enough for the four sections to link up. At one stage it even dropped off to 'perfect for snorkling', so there was plenty of time to check out the area and nearby waves. The good days were however easily the best surfing days I've had in the last 12mths:-warm water, long sessions, zero crowds.
We had the usual great first night in Jakarta before heading to the coast. After that we were, most of the time sole occupants at the losmen which of course meant that we were totally spoilt by the staff. And the food was good. Just as previously, the local kids, fishermen etc offered us nothing but genuinely friendly smiles - which was heartening. Thank God for simple normal people.
