Croatia simply were not good enough when they met with the Netherlands in the first round encounter. The Dutch put on the style as they easily dispatched their opponents with two late goals. Committing the checkered shirts to the bottom of the table. The score ended 2 - 0 for the Netherlands.
   
Czech Republic def Denmark

The Great Danes were heralded as a new team with big ambitions and potential. This all went by the wayside unforunately as they quickly fell behind by the 20 min mark. An equaliser was found by Madsen thanks to a great cross by Gronkjær just after half time. However, the lead went back to the Czech's after Heinz and Baros combined to net an unlikely of goals. The score ended 2 - 1.
   
England Blow by Spain.

This was to be a game where the score did not tell the whole story. England dominated quick and early securing a goal within the first few minutes thanks to the brilliant solo effort which ended in an own goal by Baros. They made it two by the 40 minute mark from a penalty by Rooney. The score remained the same till the 88 min where Luque a relative unknown recieved a superb throughball and easily chipped the keeper to bring the game back to 1 goal. But it was all too late, England taking the win 2 - 1.
   
Lucky Escape for France

The World Cup Finalists in 2006 were shocked by the uncharacteristic start Greece made to the game. With 5 shots on goal with in the first 10 mins, France had to re-oragnise themselves and quickly if they were to win. At half time the scores were level with both sides pushing hard. Just after the break France found their goal from David Trezequet who netted a screamer from outside the 18 yard box. It was enough for France to secure their first round win of the season.
   
Sweden Take 3

The first round of matches in the World Super League has been completed, with all the favourites make good starts to the tournament. The opening match saw Sweden take on a formidable Japanese team which were fresh off a moral boosting win against the Americans. The Swedes were pressed but were able to secure a much needed opening round win with a score 2 -1.
