Croatia
simply were not good enough when they met with the Netherlands
in the first round encounter. The Dutch put on the style
as they easily dispatched their opponents with two late
goals. Committing the checkered shirts to the bottom
of the table. The score ended 2 - 0 for the Netherlands.

The
Great Danes were heralded as a new team with big ambitions
and potential. This all went by the wayside unforunately
as they quickly fell behind by the 20 min mark. An equaliser
was found by Madsen thanks to a great cross by Gronkjær
just after half time. However, the lead went back to
the Czech's after Heinz and Baros combined to net an
unlikely of goals. The score ended 2 - 1.

This
was to be a game where the score did not tell the whole
story. England dominated quick and early securing a goal
within the first few minutes thanks to the brilliant
solo effort which ended in an own goal by Baros. They
made it two by the 40 minute mark from a penalty by Rooney.
The score remained the same till the 88 min where Luque
a relative unknown recieved a superb throughball and
easily chipped the keeper to bring the game back to 1
goal. But it was all too late, England taking the win
2 - 1.

The
World Cup Finalists in 2006 were shocked by the uncharacteristic
start Greece made to the game. With 5 shots on goal with
in the first 10 mins, France had to re-oragnise themselves
and quickly if they were to win. At half time the scores
were level with both sides pushing hard. Just after the
break France found their goal from David Trezequet who
netted a screamer from outside the 18 yard box. It was
enough for France to secure their first round win of
the season.
