The name "tonza" is a cyberidentity adopted over a period of time in the early 1990's whilst administering a popular Macintosh bulletin board system in Melbourne. The cyberidentity stayed ever since.

"tonza" refers to Tony Kavadias, an experienced computer software developer who has been working as a software engineer for various corporations and open source projects, and hopes to fulfil a continuing ambition in developing skills in software engineering for high-performance computing applications. His previous experiences include Sun Solaris 1.1.4 and 2.4 tools programming for fundamental graphics processing, bleeding-edge Java-based Web applications (back then when Java made its debut into the world), and developing application software for GNU/Linux-based operating systems, in particular Red Hat Linux and SuSE Linux. He has also worked in diagnosis and resolution of system software and application software issues for both Linux and SGI IRIX operating systems. He has also briefly worked on PowerPC-based Linux on Force PowerCore 6750 boards.

Major engineering roles include:

  • principal engineering for the SGIconsole administration server product, an optional component of the Origin 3000 Series and Altix 3000 Series servers on GNU/Linux-based systems, including Red Hat Linux 6.2, 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0,
  • engineering contributions to the Performance Co-Pilot product, particularly for extensions to support PCP for FailSafe on IRIX 6.5.
  • other miscellaneous engineering contributions and testing on IRIX 6.5.9 through to 6.5.21 operating system revisions.

Previous programming and development projects include:

  • Significant, free software contributions to device driver development for software defined radio projects at SDR Technologies, Pty. Ltd.
  • Major contributions in Web server programming (server-side Java, HTML and JavaScript programming), and SQL administration and database server programming (specifically with SQL server products from Sybase, Inc.), for version 2.0 of the Digital Library project at PMP Digital, Pty. Ltd.
  • C language-based STREAMS device driver and X11R4 Window System extensions development for Solaris 2-based systems for attaching graphics tablets built by Wacom, Co. Ltd. to SPARCstation 2 through to SPARCstation Classic systems.
  • High performance graphics tools and utilities for Solaris systems, including PhotoCD reading tools, TIFF filing tools, PostScript, EPS and PDF processing tools and other miscellaneous graphics effects algorithms, for integration to the Milestone project at PMP Digital, Pty. Ltd.; a major commercial legacy desktop publishing and job maintenance system in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and India.
  • Colour matching research and programming using colour matching technology from Eastman Kodak Company (Kodak Colour Management System software and architecture), Apple Computer, Inc. (ColorSync and KCMS for Mac OS), Sun Microsystems, Inc. (KCMS for Solaris 2) and the International Colour Consortium (ICC profile format, workflow and conventions).
