Project & Contract Management:

Each project is different in nature and will have there own individual challenges, however for any project to be successful the project manager must take on specific tasks and responsibilities.

The primary responsibility of the project manager is to successfully deliver the project to his client ensuring that the project complies with the criteria set out in the project documentation. To achieve this, the project manager must ensure that the controls are in place to successfully deliver the project.

As part of any project there a few strategic actions that should be actioned as a matter of priority. The tasks can be broken down into the following broad categories.

D1:       Project Documentation, ensuring that project documentation is in place, and understanding he risks associated with this.

D2:       Project Authority, make sure that the appropriate authority and reporting structures are in place.

D3:       Project Approvals, minimising risks to the project by checking that all project approvals are in place.

D4:       Public relations. For any project which is likely to have a significant impact on the community or which is known to be sensitive an effective public relations system must be in place.

D5:       Industrial Relations. Any potential industrial issues should be identified and negotiated prior to the commencement of works.

D6:       Project Finances. The project manager should be fully aware of the funding requirements of a project at al times

D7:       Contractual Matters. The project manager should ensure that all contractual documentation is in place and that proper administration of the contract is carried out.

D8.      Project Administration. The Project manager must set up an administrative system for the project such that linkages to the wider organisation are established. These linkages include finance, human resources, records and communications.

The detail and extent of how each of these tasks would be completed will ultimately be dependant of the requirements of the client and the nature of the project. As such in any project it is initially very important to determine the exact requirement of the client. Whilst the client will set out his requirements normally by way of a brief it is sometimes difficult for the client to enunciate his requirements in writing. Our aim is always to deliver our service in a professional manner and ensure that our clients requirements and expectations are more than satisfied.

In a project of this nature typically the consultation would be initially with the client to determine his needs and expectations. The consultation process would then be guided by the client, however it is assumed that mandatory consultation would occur with key stakeholders.

The size, scope and resources required to undertake the project will be determined in direct consultation with our client, T.T McCarthy Consulting Engineers has the resources to undertake whatever scale and size work required to complete the project.
