Wally Scott

At the Raiders 20th Anniversary Banquet we were roped into a big song and dance number - a humerous take-off of the musical number from the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. They originally asked me to play Willy Scott but I suggested that it would be much funnier if George played her... and so was born 'Wally' Scott! I was demoted to a 'fan girl'! I'd never made a dress for a man before... I never realised how much I rely on hips and a waist when I'm fitting. I bought a C cup bra but accidentally overstuffed it... George's reaction when seeing himself in the outfit for the first time was, "This dress makes me look fat!" The dress is made from cheapy disco sequin fabric and the boots were old Blundstones painted with gold glitter. The six 'fan girl' dresses and hats were thrown together at a one-day sewing bee. The hole over the cleavage was designed to have a long red scarf pulled from it during the act... and it enhanced the view! The hats were made from cardboard, masking-taped together and sprayed red. George then had to learn 'Anything Goes' in Cantonese so that he could lip-sync it convincingly on the night. All up, the number was a great hit and, as predicted, George-in-drag brought the house down! Later that year we hosted a big Las Vegas style kareoke night for my 30th birthday... aptly named 'Kerrioke'. With a few nips and tucks and a bigger split up the thigh, the Wally Scott dress was modified to fit me. George was the host for the night and I decided to make a matching outfit for him. Again, cost and time was against me. We picked up a nice dinner jacket at an op shop and I simply layered and top stitched disco sequin fabric directly over the top... the effect was thrilling and it is still one of my favourite 'thrown together' costumes. Later again, the Las Vegas jacket was recycled for an ISM party... we went as 'TV evangelism'. It works well, huh? I was wearing George's academic robes with a circle of the disco sequin fabric around my neck. |
