We met on the net almost by accident
in March 1996. We had both posted on an astrology message board and Mike
visited my web pages. I was experimenting with gif animation and had put
a dancing cartoon girl on the site. He says he fell in love with that little
figure. We exchanged a few emails and shared a sense of humour from the
start although there was no thought of romance in the beginning, I think
we each thought each other a bit crazy. Over the months a friendship grew
and we exchanged more than 2,000 emails.
After a few months of writing and
expensive phone calls we knew we had to meet. Once we had decided that,
the whole of life became a waiting game. The anticipation was intense and
I know a few people around me were starting to wonder about my sanity and
his existence. It was such a time of decisions; where would he stay? would
we like each other in person? would we feel a rapport? His plane from LA
arrived at midnite.
He was almost the last one off the
plane and as I looked at him coming thru the gateway what I felt was "I
know you". It WAS strange to touch a flesh and blood person. But there
was no awkwardness, we did know each other so well it was as if we were
simply following what was meant to be.
Those three weeks were full of wonder,
every moment was precious and I'll never forget them. We shut out the rest
of the world and tried to fit a lifetime of knowing each other into them.
The most agonising time of our lives was the time of parting. The following
weeks were heartbreaking for both of us knowing we were meant to be together.
The earliest he could arrange to
return was for Xmas that year, another eternity of waiting. He arrived
on Xmas Eve and this time it was to our own house. This time he met my
friends and family and they loved him too. My animals acted as if he'd
always been there and honoured him by letting him be another slave to them.
They were happy I'd stopped spending my life on the computer and phone.
While he was here we made arrangements with a marriage celebrant to be
married in New Farm Park in May 1997 and then he went back once again to
make arrangements to return permanently to Australia. I followed two weeks
later. I had a wonderful time in San Diego (in fact it reminded me of a
bigger Brisbane) and Mexico. The day I arrived at LAX was the beginning
of Forever for us. We vowed never to be apart from that day on. And we
haven't. Every day we are thankful for the amazing coincidence that brought
us together ...... or was it? |
