Each VIOLA book has its own unique personality despite the fact they all have a few features in common; like a front cover, a back cover and a number of pages in betweeen. And most of them are made from paper although there have been exceptions to this. I have made books from handmade paper, scrap paper, fine cartridge paper and delicate tissue paper, bound with pigskin, emu skin, kangaroo vellum, marbled paper or painted silk sewn with beads. I have made tiny fairy-size books and large art books. I have made books from paperbark, with strong bark covers, bound with palm fronds. In general the books are an average size A5 volume with around 100 pages bound in 5 to 7 sections with hardcovers and aİsoft spine about 2 centimetres wide. Made with a variety of good quality plain paper using various techniques according to the feel of the final outcome. I am pleased to tailor a book to specific needs if someone has inspiring ideas!

Parting with a handmade book is a bit like adopting a child out. I like to know where they are going and what the new owner has in mind for them (if they want to tell me!) My books have found homes all over the world, including one I bartered for some wonderful fonts (ask Ethan from Fonthead Design). I like to think people will fill them with their own brand of creativity and be inspired to turn them into a personal work of art. For this reason I am not a bulk supplier of books. I am happy to keep creating at my own pace, which means they are not available on demand. There's sometimes a waiting time if you'd like one.

To make enquiries about a book you'd like made or to order one, email me and we'll talk about the details.
