Not that we spend a lot of time in the kitchen. We write romantic fridge poems while the coffee is brewing. We read week old newspapers and our latest junk mail and catch up on reviews of movies we meant to go to but somehow never quite got around to. Sometimes we eat a lot of chocolates because there's nothing else to find in the fridge except the hairy kids gourmet cabbage and meat dish.

RECIPES

  • ORANGE GATEAU  - This is a recipe given to me by Tracey & it's well worth making!

  • 2 large oranges
    6 eggs
    225g sugar
    225g ground almonds
Wash & boil unpeeled oranges for 2 hours. Cut into chunks, remove pips & blend, including skins. Beat eggs thoroughly, then add sugar slowly, still beating. Fold in ground almonds, then orange pulp. Bake in buttered springform pan in preheated oven 190 for 1 hour Cool in tin. When cool, coat with chocolate melted with butter or oil for easier spreading. Serve with cream & orange segments soaked in Cointreau

  • LEMON CURD

  • My Yorkshire friend Lyn used to make this. It goes on the Cheese Loaf, which is really nice when made properly!
    Incredients: 4oz butter
    8 oz sugar
    3 eggs
Grated rind & juice of 2 lemons
Method: Melt butter in top part of double boiler placed over low heat. Add sugar slowly, stirring until well blended. Beat eggs & strain gradually into melted butter & sugar. Stir until mixture is light & creamy. Do not allow to get too hot. Add grated peel & juice to mix, stirring all the time. Keep heat low to keep water in boiler just boiling. Cook, stirring often, until curd forms a film over back of spoon. Pour into heated jars. Cover securely. Keeps up to 6 weeks.

    My own recipe experiences!
    (based on personal experience)

'HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN COFFEE'.
First spend ages picking the coffee beans & soak them in water until soft & most of them fermented & rotten. Then spend hours removing the soft slimy outer layer before drying them in the sun for a week or four. Then throw them in the trash & go to the supermarket where you will find fresh ground coffee in tins! Buy lots! Easy isn't it!
    Here's another one: CHEESE LOAF
....... 1 cup SR flour, 1 cup of cheese, 1 egg beaten in a cup & filled with milk
  • ( if you have no milk don't worry, just add your 3-year old powdered milk & some water).
  • Cook in a moderate oven for half an hour or until nice & flat & soggy!
  • This recipe is even more effective if left in the oven because you forget about it....... gives it that nice charred top!
