There were no web editors then so it was an experiment of trial and error with no thought of making money. In fact I took pride there were no advertisements on my ever-growing site. It was fun and I made web pages about anything and everything in my head at the time, some quite bizarre as you will see if you come across the remnants from my early days on the web. Bookbinding was my hobby. I had some of my work published in books and took commissions to make handmade journals. Eventually it made sense to put them on the web with a very soft sell approach and I sold a couple of dozen a year, which was enough as the work is time consuming. Not the way to riches though! Over the years I tried joining some affiliate sites and found them less than lucrative, in fact more trouble than it's worth. My site traffic grew and stayed fairly steady around 5,000 unique visits a month. Until Google came up with AdSense! Now there is a way for any website to earn money with very little effort, no matter if the site has little or lots of traffic. If you have a website you WILL make money. It took about 6 months for me to see the results climb to $100US and the next month earnings shot up to $100 for 4 weeks! This was inspiring enough to make sure I resubmitted the site to search engines and the earnings continue to grow. There is so much potential I have barely scratched the surface yet. My aim is to be making $100 a day by the end of 2007. The secret is to make a website focusing on what interests you and then insert google ads in a way that becomes part of your page rather the annoying intrusive ads that were a feature of the early internet (remember those awful flashing banners!). It could be anything, from your grandmother's recipes to car racing, anything you have some knowledge of. There are so many wysiwyg web editors around now anyone can do it. If you're an aspiring photographer there's a great way to generate an income by making your phots available to download at shutterbug. You get 25c - 30c each time one is downloaded! Submit Photos to Shutterstock and make $$$! Join Adsense, submit your site to the appropriate catagory in Google, then wait for the earnings to start flowing in! As more advertisers take advantage of Google the ads are relevant to the material on your site and ad value by providing extra resources to your visitors. It costs nothing and the result is up to you, depending on how much time you are prepared to spend setting it up to get best results. The potential is great. Get started today!
