Formed in 2005, The Wall of E has featured prominent members of Melbourne's experimental and post rock communities, from bands such as Silver Ray, The Spheres, Undecisive God, Registered Nurse, Bokor, Zond, Mum Smokes, and 3 Month Sunset, alongside players of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. All are united in the simple joys of strumming an E Major chord.

The Wall of E Electric Guitar Ensemble is directed by UK-born composer and sound artist Barnaby Oliver. A former postgraduate student of London's Royal College of Music,  Oliver has been involved in innovative and experimental performance for over 15 years. He has worked in the areas of post-minimalism, alt-rock, performance art, installation, multimedia and film. Past projects have included an arrangement of the Velvet Underground's notorious Sister Ray for 13 piece orchestra, and collaborations with a Welsh male voice choir and a retired Cosmonaut. He was a founder member of alt-rock band Venus Ray alongside Tony Thewlis of Australian garage rock legends The Scientists.
