Always start with ch 3 instead of first dc or ch 4 instead of first tr
Ch 1 + 4 (first tr). Rnd 1: Work 17 tr in 5th ch from hook (18 tr)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each tr around (18sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around (18sc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, *sc in sc, ch 3, sk next sc * rep from * around (9 lps)
Rnd 5: Sl st to first lp, ch 1, * (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) in each lp around (9 petals)
Rnd 6: Sl st to first dc, ch 1, * sc in dc, ch 8, sk next 4 sts *rep from * around.
Rnd 7: Sl st to first lp, ch 1, * (sc, hdc, 2 dc, tr, dtr, tr, 2 dc, hdc, sc) in each lp around (9 petals made)
Rnd 8: Ch 3, *working behind petals of Rnd 7, sc in ch 8 lp of Rnd 6 bet first tr and dtr of next large petal, ch 8 * rep from * around, ending with ch 4, tr in first sc instead of last ch 8 lp.
Rnd 9: ch 1, (sc, ch 8) in each lp around.
Rnds 10-14: Rep Rnds 7-9 once, then rep Rnds 7-8 once more.
Rnd 15: Ch 1, (sc, ch 12) in each lp around. Fasten off, leaving a 12" length for sewing. With sewing needle, weave thread to centre of first ch 12 lp and thorugh each ch 12 lp of Rnd 15. Remove metal hanger on glass ball and insert ball, with stem of ball inserted in Rnds 1-3 of cover. Pull thread tight and secure.
