Row 3: Work 2 sc in 1st sc, sc in next 4sc, 2 sc in next sc, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 4: Sc in each sc across, turn, do NOT ch 1.
Row 5: Sl st in 1st sc, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (10)

NOTE: use a small crochet hook to sl st hands together. Place both sides of hand tog, matching thumbs and leaving foundation row free, beg at wrist, attach white sport weight yarn and sl st all around hand, ending at wrist.

At the end of rnd 25, sl st in next st, fasten off. Stuff hand and arm with fiberfill. Flatten top of arm, making sure the thumb is pointing up and position and sew to body.
Hat: Rnds 1-9: With black sports weight yarn and hook size D, rep rnds 1-9 of head. (48)
Rnds 10-22: Sc in each sc around. At the end of rnd 22, sl st in next st, fasten off.
Position hat on head and roll up a couple of rnds for rim and stitch hat to head. Refer to photo for facial features.
Costume: (This is crocheted vertically from legs to shoulder)
Front and Back: (make 2): Row 1: With white baby fingering yarn and hook size E, ch 39, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. (38)
Row 2: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. Rep row 2 until piece measure 3 + 1/2". (Rows 3 & 4 are centre of leg opening).
Row 3: Sc in next 24 sc, ch 15, turn.
Row 4: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 13 chs, sc in next 24 sc, ch 1, turn. (38)
Rep row 2 until another 3 + 1/2" are completed. At the end of last rep, fasten off.
Sleeves: (make 2): Row 1: With white baby fingering yarn and hook size E, ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. (12)

Holding front and back vertically tog., (first row at left and last row at right), sew outer left edge from bottom upward to within 15 sc of top, leaving these sts free for sleeve openings. Sew inner leg seams tog and sew sleeves to armhole.
Neck Ruffle: Rnd 1: (wrong side): With baby fingering yarn and hook size E, attach yarn at back, work 36 sc across back, 2 sc across sleeve, 36 sc across front and 2 sc across 2nd sleeve. (76)
Rnds 2-8: Sc in each sc around. At the end of rnd 8, sl st in next st, fasten off.
Rnd 9: With black sports weight yarn and hook size E, attach yarn in any sc of rnd 8, ch 1, work 2 sc in each sc around, join. Fasten off.
Arm Ruffles: Rnd 1: With white baby fingering yarn and hook size E, attach yarn in edge of sleeve cuff, work 38 sc evenly spaced around. (28)
Rnds 2-5: Sc in each sc around. At the end of rnd 5, sl st in next st, fasten off.
Rnd 6: Rep rnd 9 of neck ruffle.
Leg Ruffles: Rnd 1: With white baby fingering yarn and hook size E, attach yarn in leg seam, work 40 sc evenly spaced around, (40)
Rnds 2-6: Rep rnds 2-6 of arm ruffle.
Buttons: (make 3): Rnd 1: With black sports weight yarn and hook size D, leaving a 3" length at beg., ch 4, work 14 dc in 4th st from hook, sl st to join in top of beg ch, fasten off.
Weave rem length of yarn through centre hole of button, pull to close opening. Sew buttons evenly spaced down front of costume. With double length of white yarn, starting at centre back of next ruffle, weave through sts of rnd 1 of neck ruffle, leaving yarn free, remove needle. Rep in same manner for each leg and arm ruffle. Place costume on clown, pull each set of woven yarns to gather, knot to secure, weave in ends.
