IT'S A CASUAL PROCESS
You may have noticed that I haven't posted any updates or new photos of the
continuing, but slow process in updating the features of the house. That's
because I don't want to spoil the surprise of the work that has been done in the
kitchen and to other rooms. I will be posting photos very soon on how the
kitchen is progressing.

A NAME ASSOCIATED WITH
GLENORCHY'S PAST "GLIMMERA"

I've just arrived back from a few days up at Glenorchy and have finally decided
on an actual name for the property that does belong to something about the town.
Originally after some discussions with friends, Chateau Le Brigg was decided,
but I was never really that happy with the name and feedback wasn't so good
either whenever I mentioned the name.
After another walk around the town with a good friend of mine, we noticed on the
main town sign that Glenorchy was named "Bullocktown" in a tale by Marcus
Clarke. We then googled the name and much to my delight was the tale of
Bullocktown with a lovely assortment of names. Marcus never used the actual name
of any establishment or landmark in the town, but modified it but the name would
give enough clues on where it was. It just happened that the Wimmera River was
named, "Glimmera".
So finally I have my name that does belong to a story about Glenorchy. I will
post up more information about this on my Glenorchy page.

THE BUYING CONTINUES
Back in Melbourne, having fun shopping for new furniture items to take back to
Chateau Le Brigg. Ikea has been a really handy outlet in purchasing many items
for the lounge room including sofas at a really great price. You can still go
for a modern look at a good price at Ikea. The kitchen will also look amazing
with a new dining table.
Now I just have to wait for my days off before I'm back up there to assemble all
the furniture. Still need to purchase a few more items to take up with me,
including a new sink and cabinet for the bathroom.

KITCHEN PROGRESS -
THE CABINETS ARE MOVED INTO PLACE
Assembling cabinets can be quite fun once you understand the instructions and
wonder why I place items in a box without labelling it properly, but I managed
to work with them. The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house,
and I knew it was important to have proper kitchen benches. It's not always
comfortable preparing food on the kitchen table, especially when there isn't
enough space to play with in the first place.
The task was set and the remaining two walls were undercoated. I'll wait until
the cabinets are in place before I decide on the final colour for the remaining
walls (most likely a white). All the cabinets were put into place and there will
be minimum work in attaching one cabinet in place of the pipes from the sink. I
will have to buy a new sink, since the one from the former trough will not fit
in well. Unfortunately, I won't be placing doors on the cabinets next to the
stove as originally planned due to the close proximity of the stove to the
cabinets. Major work would have to do be done to move the stove and rangehood,
so that won't be an option. Everything will still work out well.
THE WORK BEGINS
My first few days in the house were spent preparing and painting at least one
wall in the lounge and one in the hallway before my first guest arrived to check
out the new retreat. That at least gave me a few days to play host to the other
friends who also arrived during the course of the week before it was time to
banish the two yellow walls in the kitchen and apply the Chilli Red. I also
decided to prepare and paint the other two remaining walls that I also wanted to
apply the Chilli Red paint to.
Please note that the tone of green currently used for the lounge and hallway
will change again. So that leaves for more surprises for later. Something a
little more lighter.
THE WORK IS ABOUT TO BEGIN - THE BEFORE
I knew when I was first inspecting the house in Glenorchy that there will be
some work that I'll need to undertake to at least allow me to be really happy
with it. All the rooms in the house will need to be repainted, and some walls
have never seen paint. As there is no proper bench space in the kitchen, I knew
that room would be the first priority in ensuring that I maximise space to allow
me to have a proper operating kitchen and meals area. The level of comfort in
the lounge room will also need to be addressed as well
on a similar level.
Here are a few before shots of what everything looked like before I started
working in these rooms. As time goes by, I'll be able to show you the continuing
progress. I was really lucky to have the furniture included
with the house. Most items will stay in use, whilst a few will be replaced or
moved on.
WELCOME TO CHATEAU LE BRIGG
Chateau Le Brigg is located in the town of Glenorchy in the Northern Grampians.
I bought the property as a retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of
city life in Melbourne to just relax in the beautiful area of the Grampians &
Wimmera regions.
With help of friends suggestions, I decided to name the house Chateau Le Brigg,
and I'll be showing you the general progress on making this place a piece of my
own.
