THE NAME So what's with the name? I have worked in the railway industry for over 10 years and always have had that close association with every aspect of it. I have always had a fascination with way how they built things and how they worked in the early days. One piece of infrastructure that is vanishing from our scene is the Semaphore signal. With the advent of modern technology and the cost cutting measures of reducing staff and centralizing signalling systems in one location, the many good yards and stations which housed signal boxes with at times many semaphore signals ever present are now fading into history. sem-a-phore n. : 1. A visual signalling apparatus with flags, lights, or mechanically moving arms, as one used on a railroad. 2. A visual system for sending information by means of two flags that are held one in each hand, using an alphabetic code based on the position of the signaller's arms. But why the Junction? Well I didn't want to have Semaphore just by itself and had always tried to think of a addition word to add to it and finally Junction popped up inside my head. The general aspect behind the name is a place to come together and exchange views and ideas (even though I'd have to start it off). junc-tion n. : A place where two things join or meet, especially a place where two roads or railway routes come together and one terminates.
LIFE | STUDS | CAFE - THE ORIGINAL BLOG This was the phrase I used for the blog until the 19th of August where I did limit myself on general topics that I could show and discuss on here. After some heavy thinking regarding the future of the blog, I decided to re-energise the site and allow myself to take you everywhere and show you much more and do so much more. new designs from 'your station to everywhere' to well it's my ever changing station A new completely personalised design of Semaphore Junction was launched on the 14th December, 2006. This was the first time that I had been able to completely use my own design on BlogSpot. This place is always changing.
GRAMPIANS ONLINE @ SEMAPHORE JUNCTION
I have decided to start
fresh with a new look and new direction for Semaphore Junction. I have always
intended to keep the name, but thought it was time to look towards different
avenues.
All creative work and photography on semaphore junction is designed and taken by yours truly.
THE CONTINUING PROGRESS OF A BLOG
Due to the large effort involved of trying to deliver such a large website. I have decided to reorganise my blog to sort of return to my original blog roots and keep the main part of Semaphore Junction as the personal side and modify the Grampians part to reflect more so on Glenorchy itself with information about the Grampians Region.
Happy Reading.
