Treasures of the Uloola-Karloo Track

in the Royal National Park

The trailhead to the Uloola fire rail is located near the Waterfall train station on the Illawarra Cityrail line in the south of Sydney. The Uloola trail joins the Karloo track at Uloola falls. The Karloo track finishes conveniently near the Heathcote station providing a walking loop, including a train ride between Heathcote and Waterfall stations.

The Uloola falls flow weakly during most of the year. However the falls can be spectacular after a heavy rainfall. Karloo pool is a reliable swimming hole.

Your group will need sturdy footwear, hats, sunblock and at least, one litre of drinking water, for each walker. Found water will need treatment before being consumed. Mobile telephone service is available for some of the walk.

Most of the walk is across reasonably level terrain and is fairly easy going. The leg after Karloo pool, before Heathcote is mostly uphill. The walk is about 10 kms long and takes about 4 hrs to complete, excluding the train travel.

Turn left after leaving the Waterfall station. The Uloola trailhead is at the far side of the station car park. The track crosses a small cricket oval before beginning the fire trail.

The Uloola Fire Trail joins the Karloo Track at the falls. This is about 5.5km from the Uloola trailhead in Waterfall.

The Karloo track finishes up behind the State Emergency Services Headquarters in Heathcote. The train station is to the right after leaving the track at the bitumen.
