Alkaloidal (free base) cocaine
Alkaloidal cocaine is produced by dissolving cocaine hydrochloride salt in alkaline solution. The solution is then heated to produce “crack” cocaine or cocaine in its free base form is extracted through the use of an organic solvent.8 Alkaloidal cocaine is soluble in organic compounds, which allows it to be used in medicinal ointments.14
