Bupivacaine hydrochloride
Chemical name: (±)-(1-Butyl-2-piperidyl)formo-2´,6´-xylidide hydrochloride monohydrate

Molecular formula:
C18H28N2O,HCl,H2O

Similarly to lidocaine, bupivacaine is a local anaesthetic containing the amine chemical group. Its speed of onset is slow and the drug is active for a longer period of time than lidocaine. It is believed that bupivacaine may have a toxic effect on the cardiovascular system.8
