Tocainide
Chemical name: 2-Aminopropiono-2´,6´-xylidide

Molecular formula:
C11H16N2O

Tocainide has a similar structure lidocaine. Similarly to lidocaine, tocainide is used in the treatment of arrhythmias. However, the use of tocainide is restricted to life threatening cases due to its haematological toxicity. Fatalities have occurred due to the haematological toxicity of this drug. Tocainide also has various effects on the Central Nervous System and Gastrointestinal system. Tocainide hydrochloride is administered orally to patients with chronic arrhythmias.
