Description :
A virus escapes from a laboratory in England and quickly leads to a pandemic.
The virus causes its human host to become a crazed bloodthirsty animal within 20 seconds of contamination, seeking out fresh victims to bite and tear and so pass on the virus via blood. The Infected, as they are called, are hideous zombies with red eyes and pale skin and let out a ghastly hissing noise when enraged.
This thriller is a great film, but naturally not in a wholesome way! This movie got to me, I mean it's seriously creepy. It's particularly insidious in how it tries to trick you into relaxing at soome points, thinking that things will be okay for a while, just before it sucker-punches you with another scare.
Early in the movie we are introduced to the main character Tom who awakes from a coma in a hospital bed 28 days after the epidemic began.
28 Days compares very favourably with other movies that had a similar plot, such as 12 Monkeys, Outbreak, and Resident Evil. Outbreak took too much of a laidback view, and was more from the General's viewpoint on the hill as opposed to the view from the trenches, so to speak.
12 Monkeys had a marvellously twisted plot but mixed in some humour, whereas 28 Days has virtually none. Resident Evil was more action than thriller, perhaps owing this to its origins as a video game.
See it late at night like I did... and try not to be afraid of the dark afterwards. ];-)
