Dungeons & Dragons RANK=74

Category : Adventure
Description :
For starters, D&D was never really my thing. I only went to see this because I thought there might be some schweet CGI in it, and I guess there is, it's just that I find I am no longer moved by CGI alone.

On top of that, this is, basically, a kid's movie. Maybe big kids who were into D&D might appreciate it, but if there's one thing more sure to disappoint than a good book made into a movie, it's a good card&dice RPG made into a movie.

Some sequences are discontinuous with their preceding scenes, suggesting some journeying and background segments were cut. Some familiarity with the D&D world is expected, but not necessary. FYI, I had no D&D knowledge.

The characters are all plucked straight from Star Wars, and some scenes a so disturbingly similar, it's sickening.
There's Han Solo, Jar-Jar Binks, Chewbacca, Leia, Darth Vader and The Emperor. They just look different and have different names.

Not worth renting or seeing, unless you are under 14.
Even then you might not want to tell your friends that you saw it.

The Empire Strikes Back RANK=987
Star Wars Episode 5
Category : Adventure
Description :
The second of the Star Wars movies had better special effects, but somehow it didn't quite grab me as much as the other two of the initial trilogy. This is the one with the fight on Hoth, Han cutting open the tauntaun, and Lando in Cloud City.

End of Days RANK=222

Category : Action
Description :
Arnie is back! ... after his heart operation.
Arnie is getting old.
Seriously.
This is the first movie that you can tell it. Maybe it's time he threw in the towel? Well as I write this I have just become aware of a new Arnie movie about to be released so it's obvious that there's plenty of life left in the old boy yet.

Shit, back to the story!

So Arnie is a cop who investigates the disappearance of a young woman, and ends up fighting The Devil himself!
The Devil is actually quite the ladies' man - and he proves this in a scene of unforgettable chauvinism. He's really quite an inspiration to the rest of us. ]:-> Haha.
We knew Schwarzneggar would get to the head honcho sooner or later. It was only a matter of time.

Enemy of The State RANK=400

Category : Not Sure
Description :
This is Will Smith's version of "Conspiracy Theory" - a movie previously reveiwed by myself.
In hindsight, it really is that simple.
Nothing stellar here.
Oh, the ending is a spin-out. I wasn't expecting it, but it was fairly clever innovation on what would otherwise be formula stuff.

Entrapment RANK=83

Category : Action
Description :
This is the most retarded piece of crap movie that Sean Connery has ever made the mistake of appearing in.
The only reason I saw it was because of Catherine Zeta-Jones' rear end - and the director knows it too.
There is some OK techie stuf involved in the theft, but everything else is just ridiculous.

Eraser RANK=422

Category : Action
Description :
Arnie makes important witnesses disappear - to safety.
One chick has inside info on an illegal arms deal.
It involves awesome high powered weapons that later inspired the railgun in the game Quake2.
Not bad for a rainy day.

Event Horizon RANK=974

Category : SciFi
Description :
AMAZING. This movie will blow you away.
The Event Horizon is the name of the prototype spacetime-warp FTL spaceship built in the 21st century. It disappears on its first flight only to reappear years later. A salvage crew are sent to examine it. From the moment they enter the ship, things just get weirder and weirder. There are some rather disturbing scenes which almost put me off completley, but bear with it and you will see that this movie is AWESOME.
The song by The Prodigy that plays over the credits is the perfect touch to the ending.
The visual FX, needless to say, are BRILLIANT.

Evolution RANK=252

Category : Comedy
Description :
Given that Ivan Reitman directed this, it's very difficult to not see any similarities between Evolution and Ghostbusters. This time, the idea of 3 guys going on a high-tech hunting trip only occupies the final stage of the movie. I only just finished watching this movie about 20 minutes ago, and I can't remember anything significant about the first half of the flick. It somehow managed to entertain without really doing anything special.

Plot? Meteorite carrying seeds of alien life crashes in Arizona and the 2 local science dudes discover it contains microbes evolving at very high rate (well I guess they have to otherwise the movie would be 3 billion years long).

Not bad for the kiddies on a rainy Saturday, but not too good for much else.

Existenz RANK=265

Category : SciFi
Description :
This is one of those virtual reality ( ( dreams inside ) dreams inside) dreams movies.
Is this real? No
Exit.
Is this real? Yes.
No maybe not.
Exit.
Is this real. Gee we think so.

It's mindbending and a bit tedious too.

Interesting idea on what the virtual reality gear looks like, since it's more organic than electronic. I like the way the Game Designer is admired by millions - perhaps in the same way that John Carmack is today.

Fantasia 2000 RANK=304

Category : Not Sure
Description :
Bit of a mixed bag this one.
The opening story with the whales is beautiful, with sweet music and well drawn environments.
The last scene featuring Spring and set to Stravinsky's "The Firebird" is also excellent.
Everything in between I'm not sure about.
Obviously the Sorcerer's Apprentice is a classic, but Mickey playing with a mop doesn't do it for me any more than Pokemon does, if you see what I mean.

And no, I don't have to justify to you why I went to see this.

But if you must know, it's because this is essentially a widescreen surround-sound multimedia demo, similar to the PC demos that I used to be into 6 years ago.
