Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone RANK=387

Category : Adventure
Description :
Sorry about the backdated reviews but I've slacked off on them lately.

Harry Potter TPS is generally a kid's movie, and yet one can't help but be taken in by the highly imaginative magical things that happen.
In the end, you're basically sick of hearing the name Harry Potter. The kids can be a bit annoying too.
Having said that, there are far worse ways to waste time than watching this flick.

Hollow Man RANK=230

Category : Thriller
Description :
This is a fairly hollow movie too.
I found it passable.
It's mired by a lot of physical impossibilites, but then invisibility is impossible anyway, so I shouldn't complain.
The fluid special effects are amazing.
MMmmmm.
This would also lose a lot of its value on the small screen.

Hot Shots RANK=457

Category : Comedy
Description :
Another hilarious series created by the legendary comedy trio of Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker.

This is an obvious spoof of several other movies, but mainly Top Gun. The plot is lifted directly from Top Gun, but the similarity ends there.

Admiral: Wake me up at O six hundred lieutenant!
Lieutenant: But Admiral, Operation Sleepy Weasel starts at 0600.
Admiral: In that case, wake me up at ohhh.. five thirty?

I.Q. RANK=748

Category : Comedy
Description :
Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan star in this delightful and stimulating romantic comedy of a relationship that needs a bit of outside help to get started.
It seems to be set in 1930s America. Meg plays an absent minded mathematician, who seems set to marry her dotty English rat-researcher of a boyfriend. Tim Robbins is a car mechanic (named Edward Walters) that falls in love with Meg at first sight (and hey, who can blame the guy).
Meg's character is the niece of Albert Einstein, who Ed meets by chance. Einstein disapproves of Meg's current selection of mate, and tries every trick he can to get Meg to fall in love with Ed.
What makes this movie priceless is the earnest but clumsy help that Einstein and his physicist colleagues dish out to Ed. They are often philosophising about life, the universe, and everything, in their own absent minded manner.
The theme is supposedly that a smart girl like Meg could never fall for a dumb car mechanic like Ed. The fact that it took Albert Einstein to make it happen is apparently not supposed to detract from the theme!

Ice Age RANK=109

Category : Adventure
Description :
A bit flat and shallow, but probably OK if you're a kid.
The ending was a bit of a tear-jerker, which is an achievement in itself considering this is a cartoon.

I saw this while on a flight to New Zealand, so I'm not sure if that counts as TV or Video. I chose TV since I had no control over the playback and the screen was small anyway.

Description :
Aliens invade.
Very nice special effects.
Blew me away completely, until I started to look at it more closely...
It seems to be just another Uncle Sam Shows `Em How movie that has so americanised a global threat that it makes you sick just thinking about it. As for the absolutely ridiculous way that they devise of beating the alien's defense shields . . . well enough said really.

The Insider RANK=574

Category : Not Sure
Description :
Russell Crowe and Al Pacino work well together in this somewhat prolonged but effective legal drama. It concerns the cover up by Tobacco companies of their knowledge of the effect of nicotine and how they could get people hooked on it through cigarettes. Russ plays a head scientist forced to sign confidentiality agreements and Pacino plays a "60 Minutes" producer who aims to reveal all.
Everyone wants to protect their own interests, but we know that somehow the truth prevails. The film's basis in reality gives it an extra nasty edge.

The intro sequence saves this one.
