The Living Daylights RANK=887

Category : Action
Description :
This has to be my favourite Bond movie of all time.
It was the first and best of only two movies made with Timothy Dalton as James Bond.
Even so, I have to be a bit controversial here and say that Timothy Dalton is basically the best Bond actor ever. With maybe Pierce Brosnan as a close second. Yes, in my book, even Roger Moore was better in some respects than Shaun Connery. I don't now why Connery is held up as being the best Bond - he may be the definitive Bond, but that doesn't mean he was the best.

Oh sorry, back to the movie at hand. :-)

I'm not sure of the plot, but it does involve a defecting KGB agent (remember when the KGB was still around?!) who was to be assasinated by a very pretty cello player.
The settings range from Russia, to England, to Vienna, to Afghanistan.
Timothy Dalton is nimbler, colder and, frankly, more believeable than any other Bond. The gadgetry is excellent. Damn that cello player is a honey!
Also, the knife fight on the cargo net on the back of the crashing plane is particularly memorable.
Excellent all round I think.

Loaded Weapon RANK=513

Category : Comedy
Description :
Another excellent police comedy fin the same kind of vein as The Naked Gun.
Features Emilio Estefez, possibly Chris Rock (but don't quote me on that), and a rare but precious acting performance by supermodel Kathy Ireland. MMmm. She should wear her hair out more often.

Mr Potato Head: "Don't fry me!"
AHAHAH! God damn that is funny.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels RANK=778

Category : Comedy
Description :
Nice little number this one.
A group of British lads of the likely variety need to pay off a huge gambling debt but cross paths with other nasties which results in a 3-way gang war with unfortunate co-incedences and offshoots, and.. you get the picture. This is the style apparently pioneered by Tarantino, where the separate story lines come together at the end. Thankfully it is very unamerican and distinctly british.
Funny, convoluted, convincing.

Lost in Space RANK=622

Category : SciFi
Description :
This rather cool movie remake of the 60s TV series has the best synth creature effect I have seen for quite some time. Watch for when they pick up the little wide-eyed monkey thing - it's an amazing effect. The theme song by Apollo440 is a very groovy touch. I liked the reference to SGI.
The storyline is a bit silly, but hey, what do you expect from a space cadet? They end up lost in space would you believe?
The actress who plays Judy Robinson (Heather Graham) is nice to watch.:-)
I saw this twice on the big screen.

Description :
This sequel to Jurassic Park was not as good as the first, since it was even MORE UNBELIEVABLE than the first.
Just a money maker and FXcuse really.

Love Actually RANK=357

Category : Romance
Description :
Saw this on a plane going from Tokyo to London. Hey I was a captive audience, okay? Yes I still have all my balls.

Love Actually is a mix of multiple love stories that are only loosely connected. One thing they have in common is that all end happily in an utterly unreal huge fairy tale fantasy ending that leaves the human world far behind and dives unswayingly into wishful bliss.

Even for someone as cynical and bitter as myself, it's difficult not to come away from this chick flick with a good feeling.

The Matrix RANK=991

Category : SciFi
Description :
This is the COOLEST movie I have ever seen.
The special effects are done so well, you don't even notice them after a while. The scene with the red fluid tanks and the sparring scene with Morpheus are unforgettable.

Keanu Reeves stars as a hacker who hacks and cracks by night but works for a software company by day. He is contacted by a mysterious person who offers the answer to a question he has been seeking all his life: "What is the Matrix?"
The answer is quite astounding, and I really don't want to give away any more than that.

Matrix Reloaded RANK=504

Category : SciFi
Description :
Suffers from an inflated budget.
Not quite as heady as the original, but then how could it?
Still offers great entertainment.
It's the first movie to make me wonder if there is a limit to how much Kung Fu one person can watch in one sitting.
Difficult to judge on its own without comparing it to the original, since watching The Matrix is pretty much a prerequisite for having any clue as to what is going on in Matrix Reloaded.
Whereas the first was very philosophical, the sequel is much much more action oriented, has more sex, and also contains a fair bit of what might be termed "bullshit" - insofar as there is a whole lot of babble that doesn't make sense.

Meh.

The Matrix Revolutions RANK=496

Category : SciFi
Description :
A good ending to the Matrix trilogy.
This third and (hopefully) final installment sees the culmination of the war against the machines. It starts exactly where the 2nd episode finished.
I would say that the first two movies are mandatory viewing to get the most out of Revolutions, because the directors don't waste any time at the start on background material. Revolutions definitely would not stand too well on its own.

As if the Christian analogy wasn't clear enough from the first two movies, Revolutions elevates Neo to ultimate Messianic status and practically nails him to a cross.
There's an interesting reference to the Hindu notion of kama, just as previous episodes have made reference to Bhuddism.

Special effects are generally standard Matrix fare, but with some improvements in two aspects. There is thankfully not nearly as much BulletTime(tm) in this one as the last one. Also on the plus side, Animal Logic have made more effective use of flocking behaviour in the battle scenes, which feature at least 30 times the number of squiddies on screen at once than we've ever seen before. I'm struggling to imagine the computing power they must churn through to render those sequences. Puts my P3-800 and 3DS MAX installation to shame. ;-)

Do the humans win their war against the machines? Is that even what the true situation is? Do both of our star-cross'd lovers Neo and Trinity make it out alive? You'll just have to watch it to find out!

Without giving too much more away, I think the only philosophical question left to answer is: Was the being which Neo confronted at the end more analogous to the Devil or to God? I can see some arguments both ways. Something for you all to puzzle about. Other than that, there aren't too many loose ends left over.
