The Royal Tenenbaums RANK=587

Category : Not Sure
Description :
Watching this movie was like getting a new pair of shoes. It seemed uncomfortable and different at first, but it wasn't long until I began to slide into it easily.
Practically an all-star cast. Great film.

It follows the relationships between three children and their parents, and miscellaneous friends and suitors. The range of relationships is quite wide and it's a tribute to the screen writers that, despite the plot line spanning 20 years and 10 characters, all the relationships are resolved in less than 2 hours of screen time. Hopefully that's not giving too much away. This movie has some really funny moments, and, I have to admit, some touching ones too.
Speaking of touching ones, there's also a brief scene where a scantily clad Gwyneth Paltrow fondles another babe's bare breasts. I won't recommend seeing the movie on that basis alone, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Special mention goes to Owen Wilson, who was the main screenwriter behind this adaptation of the original book.
Gee this actor is getting aroud. No movies from him all these years and now he shows up in two back-to-back pearlers (Behind Enemy Lines, Tenenbaums). And it seems he can script too! What a guy!

Rumble In The Bronx RANK=678

Category : Action
Description :
The first Jackie Chan movie I ever saw. After seeing this, I realised why Quentin Tarantino gave a lifetime achivement award to him and said he was his favourite action director.
Jackie Chan is a LEGEND. The fight scenes are quite often more funny and spectacular than they are violent.

Run Lola Run RANK=791

Category : Not Sure
Description :
You had to try a bit harder to catch this one, since it is one of those really classy independent releases that big cinema chains don't seem to care about. It's from Germany as well, so I knew I was going to be in for a surprise.
I liked this movie, mainly for the soundtrack. I hope you don't mind techno because this one has it in bucketloads. Indeed, the main feature of the movie (which convinced me to see it) was the highly appropriate music that goes so well with what is on screen. I was humming bass and drums for the rest of the day. Don't do this too loudly or you get strange looks.

Oh? The Plot? Lola has 20 minutes to get 100,000 marks or else her boyfriend will die. How does the movie last nearly an hour and a half? Because the story is shown three times but turns out differently after each run.

Nice camera angles. Lola reminds me of Leeloo from the 5th.
As long as the subtitles don't put you off too much, you can really get into this film.

Rush Hour RANK=352

Description :
Chris Tucker, Chris Rock, who can tell the difference.
Anyway, one of the above is the funny wisecracking fast talking clumsy cop who is partnered with the focussed serious slow-talking martial arts expert.
Yeah, this could be any of a thousand cop movies, except that this one stars Jackie Chan as the martial arts expert cop who follows a criminal kingpin to the U.S.

Yes, this was Jackie's dream come true - he always wanted a big box office hit in America, and apparently having a yanky sidekick was the only way it was ever going to happen. Maybe because most yanks have never heard of Jackie. Maybe because studio execs had the cash and called all the shots. Who knows?
But who cares!

Rush Hour 2 RANK=148

Category : Comedy
Description :
This is the same movie as the first one, except the title has an incremented version number. Please note that higher version numbers do not indicate higher quality.
The location shifts to Jackie's home of Hong Kong in the first half, but, sadly, it switches back to Carter's home of L.A. when the dunderhead writers ran out of Chinese sitcom jokes.
Having Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as police partners is just as stupid as having Liam Neesen and Jar Jar Binks as chums - they hold each other back and it becomes really cheesey really quickly. You will probably enjoy watching this movie, but you will come away from it realising that it really is a piece of trash.
"I'll bitch slap you back to Africa!" Haha! Try again Jackie. Actually on second thought, don't. Just retire. Please leave us with only happy memories of the time when you had credibility.

Saving Private Ryan RANK=948

Category : War
Description :
For a big-budget hollywood production, Saving Private Ryan turns out to be a remarkably good film. This film is one you will not forget, ever. All the elements of war are there, the violence, mutilation, noise, suspense, pride, comradery, and moments of absolute calm in the middle of it all.

The opening invasion scene doesn't pull any punches, and it's hard to believe this is directed by the director of ET and stars the star of Turner and Hooch. But I guess it just shows the range of talent that Spielberg and Hanks both have.

Oh? The plot. Tom Hank's character leads a small team to find and evacuate Private Ryan whose 3 brothers have all died in the war (WW2). Hanks wrestles (just a little bit, this is Hollywood remember) with the conflict between keeping his troops alive and having to complete the mission (which is keeping an individual alive for political reasons).
A Top Film.

Scary Movie RANK=261

Description :
This mostly follows the plot of Scream, but it totally pokes fun at that movie, as well as Sixth Sense and The Matrix.
I found myself looking at my watch during the movie. It has some funny moments, but most of it is really tedious.
I see dead people! Hee hee!

Description :
"Number Five is Alive !"
The last in a series of five experimental military robots gets hit by lightning and becomes truly alive. Stupid premise, but it makes a good kids' movie.
This is one of the few movies I can think of that depicted robots as they truly were at the state of the art when the movie was made. The robot looks real because it IS real - Johnny 5's hands are actual robotic hands developed in Utah, US.
Bit of a laugh. Some memorable lines.
