Troy RANK=174

Category : Not Sure
Description :
Go Eric! Go Eric!
But history has already spoken and we knew who had to win. Sadly Eric's character had to die, but he put in a fairly solid effort up until then.

What annoys me is the way Hollywood spends about 30 minutes of this 2h 15min movie telling us just how important and glorius the battle of Troy will be - as though the movie can't stand on its own! And it doesn't.
I found it very difficult to care about the characters. Much as in Titanic, when the outcome is determined by history then the focus of the movie has to be on some other dramatic element. The love between Paris and Helen, and between Hector and his wife should be the key gut wrenchers, but for some reason the gut wrenching never happened and when the show was over I felt I'd wasted the obscene $14 ticket price.
This Trojan Horse ambushed me - no joke.

True Lies RANK=870

Category : Action
Description :
"I have killed many men. But they were all bad!"
Some great Arnie lines in this excellent wisecracking action flick from James Cameron. It's in the same vein as the Die Hard movies.
Arnie is a spy with the CIA who pretends to his family that he is a computer salesmen. He doesn't pay enough attention to his wife (and with Jamie Lee Curtis as his wife, who can really blame him?), which causes them to lead quite separate lives. So each have their own separate adventures until his attempt to make up gets them both captured by terrorists.
Big stunts, big explosions, bad jokes from Arnie; who could want more?

Twister RANK=343

Description :
The wind does the best acting in this FXcuse of a movie.
These twisters look terrifying. Tech heads will love the moment when an SGI notebook computer appears towards the end of the movie, and displays the position data of the probes in realtime. Yeah!

Two Hands RANK=852

Category : Not Sure
Description :
Terrific aussie drama with many hilarious moments.
A kid working for a strip club in Kings's Cross gets the chance to "do a job" for the local crime-boss.
No points for guessing if everything goes perfectly!
The usual good performance from Bryan Brown.

The Two Towers RANK=878
Lord of The Rings
Category : Adventure
Description :
The first LoTR movie impressed me and the second in the trilogy is more of the same.
Spectacular synthetic characters. There is some particularly tricky stuff in a scene where Golem fights the hobbits and the physics is handled quite convincingly.

For sheer utter coolness, you can't beat the scene where Gandalf the wizard and Balkor the Fire Demon fight each other with magic while in a 1 minute freefall through a vertical tunnel inside a mountain, with the demon's fire smoke and cinders blazing. Hell yeah!

The plot picks up where we left off, Frodo and his chubby buddy are heading towards Mount Doom by themselves, merrick and his other hobbit friend have been captured by an Orc army, while the three remaining warriors of the original fellowship search for Frodo.

Most people say there is way more battle scenes in this movie than the first. There probably is, but I can't say I noiced it. The pace is mixed evenly, and there is ample plot development and character drama between the battles to ensure that you are not battle-weary after this 3 hour (yes 3 hr) movie epic.

Excellent WW2 submarine movie.
Great atmosphere.
However I had to downgrade this one when I found out it was Yanky propaganda that isn't historically accurate.

Undercover Brother RANK=443

Category : Comedy
Description :
Whassup dog? Gitch yer ass down to tha cinema and git some Undercover Brother action before I get funky on ya.

What a movie. Utterly stupid and very enjoyable. Guaranteed to pick you up if you're down. You down wid dat?

Plot: Hip black ladies' man Undercover Brother is tasked by secretive resistance movement The BROTHERHOOD to help fight black oppression orchestrated by a shadowy white-trash conspiracy headed up by The Man.
Truth, Justice, and the African-American way!

There is a solid dose of criticism about white people, and allegedly it pokes fun at black culture too although, being a whitey, how would I know it?

The character of Undercover Brother is typically seventies and carries the whole movie energetically. Denise Richards makes an appearance as... wait for it.. the token white girl. haha.
Spike Lee includes his own personal dig about never having been given an Oscar. I get the feeling this movie was just a toy for him, and if you treat it as such then it works well.

This chicken is the bomb!

Underworld RANK=200

Category : Action
Description :
Basically Vampires vs Werewolves (aka Lycans).

The chief Lycan walks a fine line between being dramatic and overacting badly.
Costume an makeup on the chief Vampire is quite good.

The female lead is naturally played by someone who makes skintight vinyl look good, but the movie is so dark that it's difficult to.. fully appreciate. Her actual acting ability is masked by the distant bitterness of the character - or maybe that means she can act well, I dunno.

So, yeah. How `bout that vampire and lycan war huh?
Sheesh, I can't believe I bothered to see this movie.

Urban Legend RANK=213

Category : Thriller
Description :
This movie was made for Americans. If you're not a citizen of the United States of America, then you won't relate to the (yanky) urban legends presented and will be disenchanted by this movie. Some of the scenarios just seem lame to us.
It's a bit like Scream, but perhaps takes itself a wee bit too seriously.

Van Helsing RANK=613

Category : Adventure
Description :
A host of legendary monsters inhabit the dark recesses of eastern Europe in this fantasy adventure set in the 16th century.
Van Helsing is a mercenary appointed by the Catholic Church to capture evil monsters or else dispatch them to Hell with haste. He is immortal and is rumoured to have been assigned these tasks by God himself. The Church runs these assassination operations from a clandestine location underneath St Peter's church in Rome In a scene with obvious similarity to every James Bond movie, Van Helsing is equipped with all manner of mechanical and supernatural trickery by a generic boffin type who soon becomes our hero's sidekick.

Van Helsing's main mission now is to kill Dracula - the king of the vampires.

I went into this movie knowing it was going to be a zany fantasy flick and I got what I wanted. No disappointments at all. Effectswise, the rapid transformations of vampires and werewolves into their human forms is usually seamless and impressive.

Funniest line for me was when Van Helsing has just told his dithering lab assistant where they have to go next:
"But Van Helsing, I don't WANT to go to Transylvania!"
