BLIND AWAKENING

I wake up every morning,

Just as the sun is dawning,

I feel the heat of day on my face,

And I hear the birds sing,

But I don't see a thing,

Cos my world is a dark empty space.

I know when you're here,

I can sense that you're near,

But I'd rather see you instead,

How I wish I could,

But my eyes are no good,

They're just useless sockets in my head.

CHORUS:

I can't look at the flowers,

I can't see the pouring rain,

I'm blind to all of this beauty,

But not blind to hatred and pain.

If only I could see,

What changes there'd be,

I'd paint every scene on the earth,

My bondage would cease,

I'd get my release,

In a world that’s been darkness since birth.

I have to stop,

In this sheltered workshop,

I can't roam about,

I want to hit the street,

I've got people to meet,

But they just won't let me out.

CHORUS:

I can't look at the flowers,

I can't see the pouring rain,

I'm blind to all of this beauty,

But not blind to hatred and pain.
