| Ada Bird Petyarre. lives and works at Mulga Bore
Outstation -Akaye Soakage on Utopia Community. Living
within a small clan or family group, the people of Mulga
Bore have over the years, developed a structured,
efficient lifestyle on their traditional land which was
bought back from a white land owner in 1978. Ada paints like her personality. Vibrant, outgoing and blatantly honest! She is a lover of bright colours, in particular blue, but also paints in more traditional and subdued colours. Fine detailed works are not traditional works of her group nor are they any part of Ada's works. Her works express her lifestyle. She is a traditional senior Aboriginal woman who involves and expresses herself to the fullest extent both on canvas and in her ancient culture. She is a wonderful mother to June, Hilda, Colin, Steven, Paddy and Ronnie and a caring and active grandmother to so many! Ada was first recognised for her works with Batik and has exhibited since 1977. Her works are featured in national and international collections. She is an important senior artist of the Utopia district and is responsible for the 'holding' of story, song, dance and body painting of the ceremonies. Her dreaming stories are 'Kangaroo', 'Arnkerrthe'- Mountain Devil Lizard, 'Awelye'-Womans Ceremony, 'Atnangkere' story, 'Bush Potato', 'Arrarntenhe'-Bush Plum, 'Alpita'-Wildflowers', 'Jungala'-Totem for Mulga Bore, 'Kadjera & Elaitchurunga'-Grasses & Seeds, 'Angerrma'-Bush Tucker Seed |
