The Ballad of Belinda Louise
on the occasion of her 21st Birthday She took so long to get here that we all began to question, and even the doctor asked her Mum *Are you sure it's not indigestion?* But eventually she did appear - And what a stroke of luck! She turned out to be female so she got Teresa's duck! And Max rang from the eighteenth hole - (Having rung from every other). Connie answered: *Guess what Max? I'm a new grandmother!* But she wasn't a GREAT grandmother you know. (She improved by the time we got Possies.) 'Cos on their first excursion out She left Binna in Forges or Fosseys! And how you've changed, our Binna. Though you've always been a thinker, At this early stage, we have to report, you weren't a very good drinker!!!! The neighbours were kept pretty busy calling by to make sure Binn was breathing. Colleen cut fingernails, Bim cleaned up cuts, and Con was the expert on teething. We had one or two hairy moments. And Anne thought herself out of luck each time she was out there in public and you chose to scream *Daddy's fruck!* She's a much-travelled girl is our Binna - She took off before she could crawl. Has more Frequent Flyers than anyone else - Twice to the US - you-all! Gymnastics became her main focus. She began at the ripe age of four. And she's still flipping round on the high beam of life though her gymnastic days are no more. And then into diving for Binna. *Never say die* is her motto. Her last National Medal was won just last year. Isn't that an excuse to get blotto? But of course with such high-profile hobbies she took a high injury toll. Broken arms and sprained ankles she took in her stride, and even a tear in her ......... (Strain eyes, *What's that word?) Now what about love life Belinda? Remember young Trent at pre-school? And then there was Daniel our Hawthorn star, and we know Kieran Perkins is cool. But what about Mike at St Mary's? Remember the oval was banned? And Damian always looked after you Binn - and Jason the tactile? Be damned! And then there were Tim, Matt and Nathan, who always looked out for your care. But then you met Aron, the boy from next door and the broken hearts cried out, *Not fair!* Just by the way, young Aron, now you're a business exec - Gary's still wants you to buy him a game, so dig deep and say, *What the heck?* Oops! I forgot one more love life. The passion that flowed on the Net. Remember Teaze and the sweet things you said? He hasn't forgotten I'll bet! Remember those 2 dames at kinder who just wouldn't share any toys? And remember the gang at Judy's? How did you suffer those boys? It seems there's a couple of stories about you forgetting your pants. But kinder & Adelaide are a long way apart and we all know a G-string at a glance! School was a hard slog, remember? And teachers' kids did it real rough. But you were a painfully good little girl - Even then we could see *The Right Stuff*! Although we've done lots of remembers There's so much we still haven't said, like welcoming Swedes and Germans and Yanks and letting them have your bed; Like shopaholics and parties and pools and what you can do with sub-zeroes; like all that worry about getting fat and Shane Warne as one of your heroes; Like your special car - a bargain indeed - and a bit about how you drive it! The word *road runner* was mentioned to me (and Gazz said a bit more in private!) You have the most doting aunt in the world who'd buy it the minute you thought it, and whenever your Mum had a present in mind Tereese would have already bought it! 160 outfits when you were born! (Handy when you threw up a *cheeser*) But Connie'd be guilty of some of those - she runs a close second to T'resa. Well, we've covered your life pretty soundly I think, and I guess what your folks want to say is that they're pretty proud and they love you a lot as we celebrate today. You've had some tough times along with the good, and you've had to let go of some dreams, but we know you'll make it right to the top 'cos we know that you've got the right Jeans Happy birthday Binna!
